I am not familiar of what a mute plunger is. Could you be more specific as to where it is located? There is a small slide button on the tremolo plate that could be what you are refering to. I located an original tremolo bar which I am purchasing because the guitar did not come with one.

The mute was under the bridge.

There is a hole routed under the bridge that a plunger and spring fit in so that the mute may be engaged and disengaged.

Also, if you look at this thread, you will see some bodies drilled and routed with nothing but the necks attached.
