Hi all,

I just bought this guitar a week ago.

http://www.fender.com/fr-CA/products/vi ... azzmaster/

I love the thing but it seems like there is a problem with it.

The bridge: I have to set it high enough so that the bigger string doesn't pop out of the saddle.

But here is the problem: when I set the bridge high enough, everything is fine but then I notice that it gets lower and lower (gradually) as I play. Thus, after I play for an hour or two, the bridge gets too low (and the action too). After a while, the guitar becomes unplayable since I get serious fret buzz.

I like the guitar a lot (good bang for the buck) but I don't think it is normal and fun that I have to use an allen wrench every time I play (to set the bridge high enough so the guitar works). Also, the fact that I have to "play" with the bridge all the time is annoying since I also have to check if the intonation of the guitar is ok (it often is not since setting the bridge higher affects the intonation).

What do you guys think I should do with this???

Can you tell me what my options are (bring it back to the seller? Send it back to Fender? Ask Fender to replace the guitar? Ask Fender to give me a credit so I can buy another guitar?)

Thank you so much for your help!

Start by taking it back to the shop you purchased it from. Have their tech look at it or ask for a complete exchange.

Strange, Looking at the specs, it appears that the guitar came with very light strings, .009, which are way too light for the Jaguar/Jazzmaster bridge. Just not enough tension. I would suggest that you either put a slightly heavier set, .010 or take it back and talk to the store about them putting the slightly heavier strings on it.

This has been an issue with the Jazz/Jag bridge since it was first produced over 50 years ago.

Use locktite or some form of mild threadlocker. I even use it on my Mastery Bridge for my JazzMaster. It just stops the guitar vibration from vibrating your bridge screws out of the set position. That's a normal known phenomenon by the way.

And strings popping out of the saddle is a well known Jazzmaster quirk. Most people swap out the JM bridge for a Mustang one as it has deeper string grooves, or you can buy the expensive but well worth the money MASTERY BRIDGE.

Iether way those are only superficial flaws with your guitar which are completely fixable, don't stress.

I use .011 string set on my JM. So if you want to keep your origional bridge on your JM then do as ART suggested and try some heavier guage strings.

Yeah, I have 10's on my Classic Player Jag, and 11's on my two jags with vintage bridge. knock on wood, I haven't had any problems with string height. Of course the 62 has a Buzz stop, but I don't know if that would work on the Vintage Modified. The trem might be too close to the bridge. But from the photo, it "looks" like it might fit.

Oh, and heavier strings will get you a little more sustain as well. :D
