Congrats, that is a great song to learn. I'm learning it now myself. Not the El Mocambo (Live DVD) version though. :?

One of my favorite songs of all time. I'm listening to some Stevie Ray as I'm writing this! :D The El Mocambo version can be tricky, but once you get the basic ideas and the basic riffs, it's really not all that hard to play. 8) Well, maybe not. 8)

Yeah I've got my own little version of Scuttle Buttin' actually. :) It's pretty close to Stevie's version, but not exactly, the solo's pretty much the same too, the main riff is just like the easier, toned down version for little old me haha.

SRV...
I like his style but never really tried to play any of his tunes note for note. Good luck!!

I usually play along on rhythm to get a feel where to put the licks I steal from guys like him.
Texas Flood is 12 bar blues in F# (if you use std tuning). Same progression as Jimi's Red House (Bb). I know both of these guys generally tuned down 1/2 step, but I hate that because I'm lazy so I just keep the tuning std. Rather than trying to play all the guitar GOD guys licks, I'd rather use them for inspiration for my own renditions while trying to keep in their spirit.

Pretty good excuse for playing my own licks where I can't play or decipher SRV's :D

Note for note??? Ok, if anybody can play Stevie Ray Vaughan note for note, they should be actually be him :) . And here's the thing about Stevie Ray...no matter what he did, every time he played a song, it was different somehow. So, in reality, nobody could play SRV note for note, ya know? 8)
