Doing a quick look, I did not see Jazzmasters
with sunburst and a black pickguard.
Jazzmasters range on EBay from $1000 to $16000.
So, he could have a partsmaster, a Jazzmaster with a colored pickguard change.

Here is another hint I got off the Internet:
"Alex Turner's Warmoth Jazzmaster sounds great live, as well."

Meaning that Alex's Jazzmaster is not a Fender at all.

Don't jump to conclusions! That may also mean that he has a Warmoth in addition to the real deal. What he is playing in that photo is either vintage or reissue, with Buzz Stop.

As far as the pick guard, those are a dime-a-dozen. Maybe he just likes black.

Right. As long as the Jazzmaster has Fender wood body and Fender wood neck,
it is still a Fender Jazzmaster, no matter the other up-grades.
Send Alex a question with a self-addressed stamped envelope

Would I be right in saying that that photo was taken in around 2009?

This gear list of the whole band was posted in 2010;
http://arcticmonkeysus.com/forums/index.php?/topic/30-arctic-monkeys-gear/

Note that there are two Jazzmasters listed, one warmoth and one Fender of unspecified model. Its probably a classic player or AVRI, based on the sort of prices of the other gear he has listed. That and it doesn't look terribly old.

He plays it in the video for Crying Lightening video as well.

Alex's guitars are on the right of the rack in this photo. Jamie's Starcaster is there too (Drool...).

That's not a Blacktop. The trem's in the wrong place for a Blacktop, which also rules out it being a Classic Player, and the neck doesn't have the truss rod adjustment at the headstock end.

Also, the pickups and knobs are wrong (although they are obviously easily changed).

Could be an AVRI, an MIJ/CIJ, vintage or Custom Shop - can't really tell any further from the picture.

I don't think so.

The headstock decal and 12th-fret dot spacing are wrong for 1965 (or a re-issue of same). As well, the '65 instruments were all lam-boards by then. The neck in the photograph is obviously a slab-board.
