Just took possession of the new Vintage 65 Jazzmaster (burst) from MF. Very nice! Total package well done. Anyway, doing justice to the period they are capturing, the neck plate (as shown in all the promo photos of this instrument from Fender) is blank but with a serial number at the top. However, on mine, it appears commemorative:

V1200065
1st of 46
20 AMERICAN VINTAGE 12
SPECIAL
EDITION

The serial number is stamped
the 1st of 46 is BIG stylized and embossed
the rest is smaller and embossed.

Additionally, some unusual markings on the inspected hang-tag;

Sticker stating 65 JAZZMASTER V-12
Number 4 (filled in manually with marker in space provided) of 46.

Logic would say this is one of the first ones produced I guess. I am just curious to know...I know, it's NOT important.

You may have received a mistake. You may have to send it back.
Maybe a stock warehouse clerk grabbed the wrong guitar.
Seems like you ordered the normal guitar but mistakenly received a special edition.
You should send it back so the clerk does not lose his job.
Mistakes to happen. Toppscore :)

I have an AV65 Jaguar serial number V1200092. Since it is a "1st of 46" plate like yours, and your serial number is V1200065, I wonder what order goes with the serials.

In other words, my V1200092 could be the 4th, the 24th, or the 46th AV65 Sunburst Jaguar. The V12xxxxx allows for 10,000 "1st of 46ers!"

I figure that 1000 divided by 46 allows for 22 different models to be "1st of 46!"
Ten thousand divided by 46 would enable 217 different runs. If they consider each year and finish of the Jazzmasters, Jaguars, Stratocasters, and Telecasters to be a unique set, it looks like Fender is getting set to have a lot of "1st of 46" collectibles.

At first I thought my xxx92 was the 46th Sunburst, with xxx46 being the 46th Candy Apple Red. (46 + 46 = 92)

Now I only know that it has the 92nd plate stamped out of 10,000 possible!

I think you're math is a bit off - I don't think they went by color, I think they went by model (i.e. AV '65 Jaguar, AV '65 Jazzmaster, AV '58 Tele, etc.). Including the 3 lefty versions that is 12 models. 12 X 46 = 552 AVs built cutting across all colors. If Fender didn't include the lefties in this, then it would be 9 X 46 = 414 getting the commemorative neck plate. So it could be numbers V1200001 through V1200552 (or V1200414 if they didn't include the lefties) get the commemorative plates.

Thanks!

I hoped that Fender would mark them all "3 of 46," "4 of 46," etc., even if it was just a handwritten notation on the hang tag.

Hoped the plate would say AV12 if only 552 were needed. Like your math shows, it could be 414. Counting the colors, you would need to break 1000, but the serial plate can handle this easily!

One question - based on the 12 models, how is the 4th Jazzmaster number 65?

The first twelve were in the number 1-12 batch , the second were numbers 13-24, the third were numbers 25-36, the fourth were 37-48, the fifth were 49-60, the sixth would be ranging from 61-72, the seventh should be 73-84, and the eighth 85-96.

So the choice of serial numbering seems to be a bit random, as if the guy putting it together grabbed a handful for his workbench.

The good news! My Jag Number 92 - or 8 - is incredible! At least I know for sure that it is one in a thousand!

This is my understanding of how they have always handled the serialized neck plates for the AVs. It's also how they handled it from say 1954 (when they serial numbers first went on the neck plate) through mid 1976 (when the serial numbers moved to the headstock).

Yeah, must be. Spotted a brand new AV65 Jaguar on Ebay just now. Looked at the tag, and it has a serial number of V1201773.

It does not, I repeat not, have a "1st of 46" commemorative neckplate.

So now it looks like V1200553 is probably going to be the last of the 12 "1st of 46s."
