I'll spare the long preface as to how such a seemingly easy answer to those in the know could be asked by someone not in the know, but believe me when I say that it's not from the lack of using search engines.

I'll be purchasing a Classic Player Jaguar in the near future, and I'm ordering my replacement Dimarzio humbuckers first. Again, I'll spare you why.

I do need an f-spacing pickup at the bridge, correct? Secondly, and this is the question that's been the most fruitless: Assuming the strings narrow a bit from the bridge to the neck, would this then mean that I would go from f-spacing to regular, or would f-spacing still apply?

Thanks a ton in advance if you can answer this for me.

Did you look here to see the pole spacing difference between the two types?

Then measure what you currently have. Sorry I don't know the spacing on the Jaguar.

Welcome.

DiMarzio polepiece spacing is pretty close together, even their F spaced variety can be a bit narrow on some Fenders. Go with the F spacing for both pickups.

Before posting my original post, I had e-mailed Musician's Friend and finally received a response shortly after my post here. I was told to get regular spacing for this guitar. Looking for absolute certainty after receiving mixed answers, I got in touch with Fender.

The gentleman said that the spacing on the bridge is in between f-spacing and regular, and to go with f-spacing for the bridge and regular spacing for the neck. In case there may be anybody else in my shoes, this is some good info.

Thanks for the replies.

You're welcome but consider this too: As I've stated above, DiMarzio 'F' spaced polepiece spread is in between what is universally considered as 'F' spacing and what is universally considered as 'regular' spacing. Further, DiMarzio 'regular' spaced polepiece spread is narrower than what is universally considered as 'regular' spacing.

I had mentioned specifically to him that I was getting Dimarzio replacements. I think this will still work out regardless. My bridge pick-up is in stock, and the neck won't be available until October, and by then I'll have the guitar. So, I can see how the Dimarzio bridge lines up, measure the narrowing at the neck, and decide accordingly. Thanks for your help.

String spacing (E to E at bridge saddles) over 2": get F-spaced
Under 2": get regular

I built a Warmoth guitar with a Fender Strat hardtail bridge and used SD Trembuckers (sorta their version of F-spaced)

http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/faq/frequently-asked/everything-else/what_does_tremb/

I did use Trembuckers at bridge AND neck, which probable wasn't necessary but it didn't hurt. Realistically it's not gonna matter much either way.

Hope that helps.

I always thought "F" spacing was referring to "floyd rose" type of tremolos.
