Ok so i'm upgrading from a squire strat i got back roughly 8 years ago in elementary school, and rarely played. Over the past year i picked it back up and completely fell in love with the guitar, and have been playing for about a year and a half now. Obviously this setup i have now just isn't cutting(duh) and its time for me to upgrade. I plan on getting a good setup that'll last me a while, mostly playing by myself, sometimes with friends. I already picked out the Mustang iii amp and im pretty set on that, but when it comes to the guitar im in a bind. I've already ordered the Jaguar Blacktop B90, which is 500, basically my price range, but the Jag CP is 800 and if it's worth it i am Without a doubt willing to shell out the extra money if it'll be worth it. They are both MIM i know, but what can you guys say about these two in comparison? Any help, please and thank you!

I was in the same position as you, picking it up again and looking for good equipment.

I have the MIM Jaguar Blacktop H/H bought in June 2012. I didn't try the P90 (B90?) single coils. The H/H is really nice, but I had a problem with the grounding on the toggle switch due to a poor solder job (no-Pb solder apparently)' but the switch still crackles as you move through the three positions. Also the grounding issue is still not totally solved. I get a slight hiss/hum all the time unless I touch the strings or bridge. Nothing serious, but a bit of a concern for Fender quality control.

My advice is to spend a bit more cash,if you have it, and get a better quality equipment. The extra $500 bucks you spend now will serve you much better every year you play the instrument. I wish I did, and still might.

Also, the Mustang is solid state. If you want the Jag to sound really good I suggest you spend the same money on a Tube amp so you can actually hear the sounds the instrument
makes. Just sayin...because I made the same mistake.

If it doesn't have a power tube in the circuit...I'm not that interested

Thank you, i dont feel as alone in the situation anymore! Haha, i have a bad habit of saying b90 as opposed to p90 because on the gc website it says b90, and ever since i saw that it comes natural.

But anyways, i do believe i will get the CP, seeing as i know i can pay that extra 300 right now. Its still MIM but as far as my research has gone its a very solid guitar, and i just really dont have the money to be getting an MIA Jag. As for the amp, i think for now ill stick with the mustang 3 only because going from paying 275 to 1000+ isn't gonna happen at this point. So im pretty sure i've concluded im getting the CP and the Mustang 3. I will for sure need to get some effects pedals and then once i have that i plan to start saving for a tube. Thanks again!
