I just ordered a 50th anniversary Jaguar, and I really want that string mute (Fender Mute).
It is not a standard accessory in the 50th anniversary edition, but want to I buy one and get it installed.

However I was made aware that I should check if the bridge and spacing/distance is the same compared to other Jaguar as to how this part will fit at all.
I was told that the spare mute part fits with the AVRI model, so if the AVRI and 50th anniversary edition are alike bridge-wise, everything is A-OK, but I would really appreciate some guidance here just to make sure:)

If I get time this weekend, I'll take some measurements of my CS '62 NOS Jaguar and my 50th Anniversary model. A quick look shows no differences.

I think the problem may lie with the increased break angle over the bridge rather than the bridge itself. Let me know what you find out. I'd like to put one on my 50th if poss.

Most of the mute is on the pup side of the bridge, not the trem side. I'll get the specs this weekend.

@ AndrewIAJ

I finally got around to taking those measurements. It's a mix of U.S. and metric so bear with me.

AVRI
Neck Radius: 7.25 inch
Neck Width at nut: 42mm
Neck Width at 22nd fret: 56mm
Distance from bridge PUP "claw" to bridge: 16mm
Bridge mounting posts: 2 7/8 in. center to center

50th Anniversary
Neck Radius: 9.5 inch
Neck Width at nut: 42mm
Neck Width at 22nd fret: 56mm
Distance from bridge PUP "claw" to bridge: 16mm
Bridge mounting posts: 2 7/8 in. center to center

So, since the body is drilled for the mute plunger, and the sizes are all the same, the mute should fit. There should be no adverse effect from the increased break angle since the mute portion of the mute is between the bridge and the PUP. (Unless you mount it bass ackwards.) I have a Buzz Stop on my AVRI 62' and that break angle is even more pronounced than the 50th Anniversary model. Mute still works fine. If it didn't, the Custom Shop would never have put it on there. :)

Also, if you do go this route through Angela or other parts supplier, make sure you order the COMPLETE assembly!

Just my opinion, when I owned a Jag in the sixties, I never used the mute. Still don't. If you insist on using the bridge cover, then the mute is helpful. Otherwise, forget it. But if you like the looks, then by all means, go for it. :D

That's part of what makes the 50th Anniversary model. A little bit from each generation. Trem (vibrato) is vintage with the press-in type arm, vintage bridge, bound neck and inlays (1967?), missing mute (many players removed the mute), modern increased break angle, hotter pups, modern radius, 1 degree angle on neck pocket, reverse mounted PUP "claws" (at least on mine), etc... I have seen many, many Japanese Jags with the reverse mounted claws. (1st and 2nd string should have the short teeth.)

Keep in mind that when you're ordering a mute, you'll need: the mute assembly (get the assembly, not the plate), a mute plunger and spring, mounting screws, and mute rubber.

These items can only be purchased separately, although the mute assembly sometimes comes with the rubber.

And when mounting, the spring goes into the body, the plunger mounts over this and faces the bridge.
