Hi,

I am considering ordering a Fender American Vintage '62 Jaguar. Unfortunately, I have to order the guitar "sight unseen," as none of the guitar stores in my area have them in stock. I've played some Jaguars in the past, but would like to get some feedback from folks who own this particular model. I've read that this model has a very diverse range of tones, which is exactly what I want. I'm especially looking for a jangly/chimey tone that is similar to that of Johnny Marr. If you own the American Vintage '62 Jaguar, please send me some feedback (e.g., tone, setup, neck, pros/cons, etc.). Thanks in advance for your help!

I don't own a Jaguar but I do have the Jazzmaster in that series and I think it's terrific. I consider them to be kind of similar. Same bridge and whammy bar. The Jaguar has a shorter scale and might want bigger strings. I use 0.010's on my Jazzmaster and it feels just right, since that's what I also use on my other Fenders. A lot of people have issues with the bridges but I don't think it's a big deal. I've kept mine stock and it's fine. I'm not sure what tone you're specifically looking for, but I suspect it is the chimey sound you get when you turn on both pickups on these guitars. Listen to the solos in early Beach Boys tunes and you will get an idea. Good luck!

Thanks, gadabout. I appreciate your feedback. Actually, I've decided to hold off on getting a new Jaguar for the time being. It's not going to fit into the budget like I thought (does it ever?). Also, I'd like to spend more time getting acquainted with the Jazzmasters, as I like the longer scale on them.

The 62 reissue is a great guitar. Mine is a '62 NOS Jaguar, (only because I ordered a custom color) and it sounds as great as the 66 that I owned back in the old days. Especially when played through the Twin Reverb. 8)

I highly recommend the AVRI Jaguar. It's a great guitar. I have small hands and I love the shortscale neck and the 7.25" radius. Very comfortable and versatile. It can go from a very heavy sound with the neck pickup and distortion to a very chimey and clean sound using the bridge pickup. I love mine.
