My Fender Jaguar (AUG 63 neck date/64 serial #) has that quintessential Fender surf tone, especially with both pickups on. That particular tone has always been hard to describe in words but the adjectives that come to mind are choked, bubbly and doinky. How's that? I love how there are certain notes on the Jaguar (low D, A and E strings) that jump out and overwhelm you with their doinkiness!

I am looking to get another Jaguar in a different color (mine is Olympic White) but I'm wondering if the pickups varied from year to year, and if so how much. If the tone was fairly consistent from 1962-1965 obviously it would give me a wider selection to choose from. Plus, it might take a while to hunt down another late '63/early '64 model! Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

As a reference point I have provided a link to a little surf medley with a Jaguar tone similar to mine:
