Check my post on the last page of the other PS Mustang thread...yeah, I think it's a factory shielding screw-up. Like I said, I bought a copper foil shielding kit - then never got around to putting it in. If I finally get it installed, I'll post my results here.

Hey guys I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts you might offer on the following.

I bought my 2011 Pawn Shop Mustang new from musician's friend last September. It was packaged well and obviously suffered no damage during shipping. It does not have a scratch on it.

From the start, it had the "clicking," or "static electricity" problem that some have already mentioned on this website. The guitar otherwise gives (in my opinion) an amazing array of very, very pretty tones.

I'm trying to do research and I guess asking you guys is one thing I'm doing: has it been established or decided whether this clicking problem (which indeed seems to be caused by static electricity buildup in the plastic pickguard) is a "warranty" or "defect" issue?

I'm trying to figure out whether to have it looked at under the warranty. I'd rather not take the time. I'm not one of those guys who complains and looks to make trouble. If you tell me the problem can't be fixed other than by replacing the plastic pickguard with something nonplastic, then fine, I can still live with the guitar.

But the reason I ask is that, of course, strats come with plastic pickguards and they don't have this problem. So is it some kind of wiring, loose connection, lack of shielding or whatever kind of internal/electronics problem with the pickups or design?

I'm trying to figure out if this is a sort of "infamous" problem like the fizz with the pawn shop amps.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts you might share. :D

[weird solution]

I am no master of electricity stuff, but I think my problem was very similar to yours- Touching the pickguard generating static Electricity with noise. I own a Blacktop Jazzmaster, BTW.

Long story short-
Ruling out the different factors- ground noise, cable, amps -; Looking for different solutions - shiedling, connecting the metal parts(screws) pickguard with bridge,

Finally the noise from static electricity is gone for the first time.
The weather got really humid => voila, no noise. I couldn't even make it anymore.

Find a non disgusting way to make the pickguard not-so-dry.
I am thinking of moisturizer or something which is.....quite odd. but can't think of any other way. Hope my experience is useful.

P.S= Just tried youtube search, and technician who seems to know what he's doing gave a understandable explanation and solution. check it out.
