Hi, I'm new to the forum, I've been pulling my hair out for the last couple of days trying to figuire out whata going on with my new avri pups, here's the deal...
I have a beautiful black classic player jazzmaster, I decided to change the stock pickups for avri usa pups, sounds simple right, I figured I'd also shield my cavity and pick guard while I'm at it, so I do this put in the new pups as the old oned were wired, set it all up and here's what happend, the bridge pup plays appropriatley loud whan in the bridge only toggle position, haower in the neck only toggle and in the neck only switch position the output is way too quiet, in the toggle mid position BOTH pups are quiet!!! I checked the resistance for each pickup when wired the bridge 8.3k the neck was 0.2k, I took the pickups out and checked them the bridge and neck both measured over 8k, I figured it was a short somewhere so I checked all the wiring , put it back together and the same thing. About this point I really started to loose my mind, should the pickups go in with the leads on top or on bottom is the colour coding bridge red and neck blue, I turned the neck pup with the leads at the top and the bridge leads at the bottom, set it up and the same thing, I 'm sure the pups are goo as they measure properly when not in the guitar, I'm also suspcious of a short somewhere but can't seem to find it any light you could shed would be well appreciated, thanks Glen

The traditional Jazzmaster pickups are of single-coil design -- they will hum to an extent when used separately. However, a pair of them incorrectly connected in out-of-phase parallel configuration will perform as a humbucker pickup.

If you have no hum or buzzing with the pickup selector switch in the centered position, I think you may have your pickups wired out of phase with one another.

As for the seemingly low output, you may have a "cold" solder joint somewhere. Check your wiring with a DVM to determine where the loss-of-signal is occurring.

Also, be sure to ground all of the shielding that you added to the pickup and control cavity routs.

HTH
