Im a strat guy, I know my strats inside out, all of them are set up perfectly along with my friends who have strats as well lol!

I've posted on here in regards to my Black top Jazzmaster before with various problems but the issue I believe is it just needs a good professional set up…….but im cheap lol

When I play the JM I used to get a very Tin-y, sharp echo-ie sound when I played around the 7th - 9th Fret, I went in and messed with the action, lowering it to the point that it didn’t buzz (I like low action). Now I get the same tin-y sound at the 12th-14th fret?

I had slapped some 11s on it, plus I put some tape on the back end strings close to the bridge to reduce some of the buzz and it worked but need to get rid of this sharp tin-y issue.

SO………..does anyone know of a Good simple step by step tutorial on line on how to set up a Jazzmaster correctly, dealing with the truss rod does kinda bother me but I need to learn

Same thing for a Mustang bridge as well………………..my stang used to play like a dream, I got all nirvana-ish on it and figured I like 11s on it as apposed to the 9s……….now it seems the action is much higher and sounds like $@!&……meh……this is what I get for ignoring my strat babys lol

You are very very luckyor you don't feel the neck move ? You are not the only one.

Do I should understand you don't know how to adjust any truss rod ?

Sounds like they both need a truss rod adjustment. Any time you step up (or down) a couple of string sizes, you should adjust it.

Cyberguy, did you look on you tube " truss rod adjustments" or "jazzmaster set up" or ....?

I repeat what I wrote before about the truss rod , same as a Strat so find how to set up a strat truss rod.

Yeah I've been searching all over the net and Utube, like I mentioned in the other thread just having a hard time getting it set up, chances are its just me and obviously not used to dealing with the Jazzy bridges, just frustrating.

I noodle with the Strats all the time, not that they need it….never have had a problem and never have had to touch the truss rods, and I always go back and forth between 9's & 11's.

But I don’t mess with string gauges on the Gibbys lol………...

cyberguy , I was thinking you have only question about truss rod , not complete bridge set up . I'm french speaking .Sometimes it is not essy to me to understand english.

I have an original old jaguar and a Jazzmaster too. I find how to do their bridge's setup in the book ; " How to make your guitar play great" By Dan Erlewine, pages 56 to 69

You should buy it

Amazon.com;
