Hi!

I downloaded the "new" guitar manual from Fenders website and saw that there were a different intonation procedure compared to the "old" manual.
The new manual says intonation is done by measuring the length from the neck to the 12 fret and then adjusting the saddle so the it is twice this distance for the 1st string. The position of the 2nd saddle is found by adjusting from the 1st saddle with the string gauge and the 3rd one is done in the same way, relative to the 2nd saddle. The 4th saddle should be in the same position as the 2nd saddle and then 5 and 6 are found by relative adjustments again.
The old manual says intonation is done by getting the same note on the open string, the 12 fret harmonic and on the 12 fret.

I intonated my Blacktop Jaguar, with Ernie Ball Power Slinky strings, using the old manual method and a standard guitar tuner and it seems to intonate fine. But the saddles does not follow the principle from the new manual. For example, the 4th saddle does not end up in the same place as the 2nd saddle.

Did I do something wrong and what is THE best method for intonation?

Best Regards,
Madsen

I did not read the "new" intonation method . The "old" one is the best. Probably the" new " , is good if you build a guitar , good for have saddles not so far. This not good for proper intonation.
