Just looking for any opinions on the EVH Wolfgang. I was looking at getting an new strat and just pulled one of these EVH guitars off the wall and I have to say wow!!! The action, the feel of the neck, the pickups. I'm rethinking my future purchase from a strat to this EVH Wolfgang. The price is a little ridiculous though. 3K...!! Ouch!

Anyone have the Stealth model? How do you like the ebony fretboard?

You can still buy a Carved top Peavey Wolfgang used in excellent condition for a grand to 1500.00 ,made in usa . They are the original wolfgangs and are excellent in build quality and tone. Flat top USA models are also available for 600.00 or so. Although they are nice, I know I cant afford 3k for an EVH Wolfgang so I personally would look at the Peavey. Good luck.

Seeing from the plethora of responses, I can understand that 3K is hard to drop on one of these. It's a great guitar but I don't think it's priced correctly. The USA model should go for $1,900 and the Japanese special should go for $800.00. The EVH people should understand that these aren't the times to be trying to sell a guitar for 3K. I can't imagine that the orders are just flying out the door.

My local GC has a few instock that have been there for a few months . I think they have sold one. Plus I agree withyou on the pricing. 1299.00 For straters on the MIJ model ? I can think of many USA guitars I would rather own. Certain Manufactures have gotten grossly overpriced on USA models "in these times".

I'm wanting to know from people that have owned one a while what they think of them. I wouldn't mind getting the cheaper Special model, 1300 or so isn't too out of line but I'm done paying 3000 for a guitar, I went through that phase and I'll never spend that much on a guitar again. I found the more expensive the guitar the less I want to play it.

Anyway, it would be great to hear from guys that have had one for some time how they still feel about it.

I recently got an EVH Wolfgang special, tobacco burst. I got it through Sweetwater, who I usually go through. I love it! Nice well balanced, neck feels great. No sprouting frets like others have had, but the ones that did have it reported that putting a humidifier in the case or subjecting it to local humidity corrects it if you happen upon one that does...seems to be a trait of the unfinished neck. Anyhow, the top, although a veneer, is gorgeous. I love the way the pickups sound. The hardware is nice. The FR works great in the dive only setup, the Dtuna works great once is properly set up. Now that its become climatized, I may add some relief to the neck...its dead flat, came that way. I like a little bit. Now there is a lot of misinformation about the specials. A lot of places copy and paste the standards specs to the special. The neck is not the exact same neck, the standard has a back bent head stock with binding, the special is straight like a Fender with no binding and there is no way I can tell if it has the dual graphite reinforcement rods. The top is a veneer, maybe a sixteenth of an inch thick, not the .5 inch maple cap like the standard has, and its only single ply binding, not 5 ply like the standard(a lot of sites I have seen claim it has the same binding, but it doesn't, but I prefer the look of the single ply on this burst.) A lot of folks complained about the high e being too close to the edge of the neck, along with a gap in the neck pocket. I had the same, but the neck screws weren't that tight. I loosened the strings then the neck, and put it where it was supposed to be, and its dang near perfect. I noticed the case inside molding the guitar rests in the neck "cutout" is tweaked to the exact position the neck was out. Shipping all over the world in who knows what kind of environment surely made the neck settle in to the jacked case. The case LOOKS nice, but not any better than the Fender SKBs, this guitar just won't fit in them, I tried. So I wacked the foam down some in the neck area so it wouldn't continually apply that tweaking force to the neck screws. If the $3K standard has this same case, I'd be shocked, this one is not all that and a bag of chips. I hauled the guitar 800 miles in the case in the truck of the car, it did its job, the guitar is fine. No way I'd let it go in the bottom of a plane, its not that sturdy. I'm not going to return it over the case, heck you're lucky to get one nowadays. As far as worth the price...well that's up to the buyer. My specimen is a good example of MIJ quality, other than the less than optimum tightness of the neck that was easily corrected, it was perfect. Feels like a nice solid guitar. I don't feel like it should be priced lower because of its quality although there are non EVH guitars just as nice for less.

Thanks for sharing! Great info here. Sounds like you are enjoying the new EVH. I plan on getting one sooner or later, based on savings. My only gripe is the resale value of the EVH brand. Not like if I get one, I would want to sell it, but it would be nice if these things held their value like a Gibson. I mean, for the price, they should.

Are these EVH guitars made with basswood? I admit I am not a expert on wood but most of the cheap end models of guitar are made from this like the Squier Bullet series. Does basswood get a bad rap that it doesn't deserve?

Yes, the special and the standard are basswood (the standard having a .5" carved maple top). I'm not a wood expert either. If it were a LP, I'd expect certain materials, and be furious if I found out different, but this one sounds great, handles well and that's all that really matters to me.

Yes, I am enjoying it very much. It's the only one I pick up lately, and I have several nice ones to choose from. It just feels so good in my hands. It lacks an arm cutout, so its like playing the tele, although it feels like the edge is sharper than a tele; it weighs about the same as my Hwy 1 Tele. As far as resale value, nothing in today's economy really holds it value. You can hold out and wait for someone willing to pay what you feel it is worth, or you can liquidate immediately for cash and take the loss. No way I'd pay the $3K for a wolf standard, or more for a LP, you won't see that cash back either. Some things cost more, and naturally carry a higher resale, but you see them all the time going for peanuts in the non-dealer outlets. Unfortunately its a buyer's market on the used side of everything nowadays. There are discerning buyers out there that do appreciate a well loved and cared for something, and are willing to pay top dollar because of it. They are just far and few between these days. The vultures are out now looking to get something for next to nothing. The hardships people are facing make it easier to do that. But that's really a whole topic on its own.
