Anybody played (or own) a Lee Ranaldo and/or Thurston Moore Jazzmaster? I'm curious how they sound and play. I mean, I've read the descriptions and reviews, but would love to hear from anyone on the forum who has played one, and ideally, both.

hello--i've had a thurston moore jazzmaster since last november and i absolutely love it. it's very clear and twangy and takes effects well. i've not found the lack of a tone control to be a problem. i've mostly played strats and teles in the past, but the tm is now my favorite.

Hello

I have had a Lee Ranaldo since November 2011 and I absolutely dig it too. Besides the fact that a JM is my favourite looking style guitar, I also love the simplicity and color of the Lee Ranaldo version. The sound is said to be a mixture between a humbucker and a single coil, (as it comes equiped with 2 Wide Range Humbuckers)- not too Twangy and not too Dull. I am loving it.

Good luck choosing one if it comes down to it. I had to make the same choice, I loved the spec of both of them, so I went with what I thought was visualy the most appealing to me. 8)

My Thurston Moore JM should be here in less than 17 hours!

The reason I chose the Thurston Moore over the Lee Ronaldo was 100% because the TM has Seymor Duncan Antiquity II's in it. Those pickups are GREAT and I play a lot of fuzz pedals and I generally like a single coil pickup when playing through fuzz. Nels Cline also uses Antiquitys in his Jazzmaster and the Antiquitys are the only pickup that Seymor Duncan hand winds anymore.

However, I liked the look of them both and I love the fact there is only a pickup switch and volume knob. It's less for me to slam into when I'm playing and knock out of my settings.

I ordered a Lee Ranaldo from Sweetwater, due to arrive tomorrow. I'll let you know what I think after I get it. Might have to get a Thurston too. :) The Visa card is to me what a bottle of whiskey to an alcoholic. Somebody please take it away!
