Hello friends,

Can anybody tell me if there is a difference in quality , for what concerns pick-ups,wiring,potmeters etc.. between the Jaguar Blacktop HH and the Amercan Vintage '62?

1) What difference ?
2) Is the Blacktop made of low -budget materials ( and less quality ) .
3) If so, how to upgrade the Blacktop to higher quality levels.

Kind regards,
Josinka

1.) The main difference comes down to three things...
a.) The Blacktop is Made in Mexico and the 62' is Made in America
b.) The Pickups, The Blacktop has hum-buckers and the 62' has single coils
(The 62' single coils are more vintage sounding, while the Blacktop's are more for metal. Two very diverse pickups)
c.) And the last one.... the price tag. $2400 vs $740

2.) The Blacktop is made out of the same wood (Alder) as the 62'. However, the quality may differ from the 62'.

3.) First, before you do ANYTHING, play the guitars! Find which one you like the best. If you are torn between the two and can't afford the 62' buy the Blacktop, I'm not sure if price is a factor. So, if you buy the Jaguar and you don't like it the way it is I would replace the pickups and volume pots. If you prefer a vintage sound you may want to swap out the hum-buckers they may be too "hot."

Hope that helps!

I have a Blacktop FSR blizzard Pearl Jaguar with a bound neck and love it but its not a traditional Jaguar ,more of a Jaguar shaped modern twin humbucker guitar .It still has the 24" scale of all Jaguars. My one is very heavy so good solid alder used .I found my one to be a revelation and I may well buy a more traditional jag as well as the shape and scale suit me well .There is also a Blacktop Jaguar with twin p90's.The Classic Player Jaguar H H may suit you better .All the Blacktops are made in Mexico but I dont find any shortage of quality .They are very good value I think .
