I just bought my first acoustic 3 weeks ago. I am new to learning to play. I am very happy with my purchase and have been waiting 20 years to start. I have small hands and fingers. Someone suggested to me to have light strings put on while I am learning because it is easier on the fingers. Is this a good idea? What would you suggest?
Thank you! :D

Not a bad idea to start out with light gauge strings, but if you are planning on sticking with the acoustic guitar you should try to move back up to thicker strings once you you get some strength built up in your fingers and start getting calluses on your fingertips.

You might find that if the frets are tall, which they usually are on acoustics, then the light strings would be bent when you fret them, which will make it sound out of tune, even if it's perfect when played open.

But light strings are a good place to start just for building the strength in your fingers, but you may find them more suited on an electric.
