Hi All

This is my first post. Woop Woop.

I have a MIJ Fender Mustang. I got it 2nd hand, it has a Seymour Duncan Quater Pounder in the neck and a set of Hot Rails in the bridge. The thing is the Hot Rails are supposed to have a super high output, however if you compare the pickups with one off at a time you notice the Hot Rails in the Bridge is a lot quieter / weak.

Now I have a feeling that the Hot Rails may be a neck pickup because the writing on it is the wrong way round i.e faces down when the guitar in on a stand (does that make sense) and would this explain why it is quieter?

Any ideas / Suggestions?

I know its obvious.. but I have to ask... did you try raising the pickup so it's closer to the strings ?

Hi

Yes I tried raising it, I also opened it up and checked that the wiring was correct.

The only issue I can see with the wiring is that the bridge pickup goes into the middle left switch rather than the middle right switch on the bridge pickup selector, but since both the middle switches are wired / bridged together anyway I doubt this would make a difference to the volume.

Thinking about it I expect the Hot Rails is the correct bridge pickup. I am guessing because it was a Srat hotrails the mount for it (the bit of plastic that is a chevron shape) only fits into the routed out area of a mustang the other way round hence the writing is upside down. It has a sticker on it that says B on the back.

SD has wonderful customer service. I would suggest you give them a call or register on the SD boards and ask the question. I only say this as it sounds like an SD question, not a Fender question per se.
