The numbering is under the lacquer. From what I can tell, the first few made were numbered. I see that there's a #8 on eBay right now.

I got it mail order from Sam Ash, and the serial number is an '11, so it jibes :) Think I may just have the very first burgundy mist 50th anniversary Jag ever made...

Just got a Burgundy Mist Metallic 50th Anniversary Jag in the post yesterday.

Beautiful guitar, but I'm installing an adjustable-saddle-height Mustang bridge as soon as it gets in, I just can't stand the original Jag bridge.

However, what seems to be extra awesome about this particular instrument is that there is a "#1" on the back of the headstock -- does that mean what I think it does?

Yeah some of the first ones are hand numbered. Mine isn't :(

The fact that you have #1 is ridiculously awesome! Congrats.

Thanks! That's what I can see now that I've done some research.

Sweet! Like that color, but it just isn't me. Always been attracted to the reds, blues, and sunburst.

Wait!! Already one on ebay?

And I went through a Showcase Dealer and I get a regular serial number,

Most that I see with numbers are in the 1205 series. I see a 1132 series with no number. I got a feeling, that there is someone new that didn't know he was supposed to write on the "heel" of the neck.

Don't think that's the case:

Wait a sec. How can yours be number one and also the CAR in my post have a #1? That's very fishy to me. :|

I considered that as well. I'm thinking there are numbers for each color. One thing that's interesting is that the CAR one has a '12 serial number whereas mine is '11.

I'm not making this up :)
