These guitars are interesting, but if I had designed them I would have done them a little differently. First, I would have put stock Strat pickups in the bridge position. This would give the guitar a Stratty sound. I would also put a regular Tele pickup in the neck position of the '51 and I would have mounted it straight across instead of slanted. This would have made 2 guitars that were truly a cross between a Strat and both a Thinline Tele and a regular one. I would have also added a tone knob and a regular 3 way switch. Another possibility would be a Tele pickup in the bridge and a Strat pickup mounted straight across in the neck in the '51.

But if I owned a '72, I would probably put a chrome humbucker at the bridge. I'm not a modder, but the exposed humbucker next to the chrome humbucker makes it look mismatched, like the pickup has been replaced.

I played a '51 and wasn't really impressed with the sample I played. It was very nice, but not a good value for the money and not as nice as my Japanese and Mexican Fenders. I would rate its playability as average. Hopefully I just played a mediocre one and most of them are better than that one. It was nice but uninspiring. Maybe if I played it again I'd think differently.
