I didn't order one exactly because of this issue - the hopeless delays of delivering this to the marketplace are a real black eye on the company. Is it arrogance, disorganization, or both?

A decent company communicates honestly with their customers; in this case that includes individuals who have ordered the guitar (and already sunk their money) as well as retailers.

Honestly, this is kind of shameful.

Please don't laugh, but let me suggest an alternative. I wanted a new toy and decided on a Squire Cyclone instead of the Marauder (for reasons listed above). I received it today and it is great little guitar for half the cost of a Marauder. For me it serves the same purpose.

I've been looking at a LPB Marauder that's been hanging up at the local Mom & Pop Music Store for about four months now. Every time I go in I wonder why someone hasn't taken it home yet... and why I'm not taking it home..? I'm off work today and I haven't bought a guitar in over a week, so maybe I should see if they're ready to knock $50 off the price.

As I mentioned in my earlier post on this thread, I got a new LPB Fender Marauder about two months ago from Sweetwater. I was really frustrated about having to wait for it, as Fender kept pushing back the shipment date. Once I finally received the guitar, though, I was really happy with it. IMHO, the good reviews I had read about it prior to ordering it were true. I've been playing the guitar for over 20 years and own a few nice ones, but the Marauder is an exceptional value for the price and the fact that it's made in China. It's certainly not top of the line, but the build quality really is exceptional for what it is, and it is a really fun guitar to play as well. In fact, whenever the urge to jam hits me, I almost always pick up the Marauder first. It even takes top billing over my Gibson Les Paul Studio. Also, the Marauder stays in tune, which I cannot say about my LP Studio. It came very well set up out of the box, but since I had it professionally setup by my local luthier, it is an absolute dream to play. The Marauder is a very versatile guitar, which I like because I do a lot of home recording. It's like having a strat HSS, tele, and jaguar all rolled into one guitar. I've actually been considering ordering the new Johnny Marr Jaguar (I'm a big Marr/Smiths fan), but for my purposes, the Marauder gives me the tones I need without having to spend $1,7000.00 on the JM Jaguar. Anyway, I'll get off my soap box now!

I received my Marauder a while back. Even though I do agree Fender should communicate with their customers when I received my guitar I was pleasantly surprised. I am very happy with my Marauder and am still surprised at how much I got for so little money. I don't mind waiting for something as long as it's built and put together correctly of which the Marauder was perfect. I will gladly purchase another guitar from Fender in the future.

I don't think it's shameful, I think it's just bad luck. There were obviously some issues with the factories that build these guitars and some kinks had to be worked out. There might have been a design flaw. Or they might have just sold many more of them than they expected to.

I got mine as well a couple of weeks ago in LPB. So far it has lived up to all of the great reviews. It's definitely not a bad guitar for under $400.00. The finish is beautiful and I am very impressed with the craftsmanship. I also have a Squier Classic Vibe 50s telecaster that has the same build quality, so I am glad to see that Fender's folks in China are producing good quality, affordable guitars these days.

I can play almost all of my favorite kinds of music on the Marauder, and I like the versatility of the various pickup tones. My favorite pickup tone is the "humbucker," which is one of the things that sold me on this guitar. I like the thin neck on this guitar, which suits my small hands. I also like the silky-smooth playability of the rosewood fretboard, which was another big selling point for me. The guitar actually stays in tune every time I play it, and it was set up very nicely before it was shipped to me. The only negative thing about the guitar is that it does go out of tune a bit when I use the whammy bar. I have to use a lot of finesse with it if I don't want to retune a lot. It's a relatively minor issue, and I don't see it as a major downfall with this guitar. Overall, the Marauder was well worth the wait and will definitely always remain in my collection!

Here's a pic of mine. The bad lighting doesn't do the finish justice, but you get the general idea!

Take a mechanical pencil (.03mm is the best, .05 will work in a pinch) and fill the nut slots with graphite. This will lubricate the nut and make the guitar stay in tune better. I was skeptical but I tried it on one of my Strats and it works.

Coming up on two months since I ordered mine. Trying to hang in there. I mean, I've ordered _cars_ that haven't taken this long to arrive.

I wrote Fender customer relations suggesting it would be, at minimum, courteous of them to provide a modicum of explanation to their customers and dealers (beyond, simply, "shipping delays"). They don't have to air _all_ their dirty laundry, but in the age of social media it's best to be transparent rather than have people speculating and firing off nastiness on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. I mean, I'd even respect them if they said, "Well, yeah. We had a shipment that was garbage so we sent it back. And we'll keep sending it back until the manufacturer meets our standards." That would at least show they're tough when it comes to quality control. (Just speculation by way of example, by the way.)

I hear ya, edesaute! I'm wondering if the lack of communication has something to do with the fact that the Modern Players series is being produced in China. Perhaps there is some sort of production issue over there that no one wants to make public. Who knows? Anyway, all I can tell you is that the wait will be worth it...IMHO. If worse comes to worst, you could always cancel the order and try another vendor. I probably shouldn't drop names, but I ordered mine from Sweetwater. I did have to wait a couple of months due to shipment delays, but I think they got their next shipment of the Marauders in before most of their competitors.

Yes, it will be worth the wait. I love mine. I was lucky enough to get mine in February. I found it at a mom and pop store in Tulsa.

Speaking of the Marauder...could someone who also has this guitar recommend a good hardshell case for it?

The case I got does not have a brand name and didn't have any tags when I bought it. It has a velcro strap to hold the neck in place. It won't fit in a regular Tele or Strat case.

Having written Fender customer relations on this, I was informed that the guitar should ship mid-July earliest and _might_ only ship in August. I ordered it on May 4. Sorry, but this is unacceptable. The reason provided, if it's to be believed, is that they've had unexpected demand for the Marauder in Lake Placid Blue. Well, how about taking some of that IPO money and working with the manufacturer to meet demand in a reasonable time frame? Anyway, I'm giving up and am going to cancel my order. I do really like the guitar, but I've never been a brand fanatic with any product. I was originally looking at Mosrites, but they're wildly expensive. I did, however, manage to find a reasonable substitute: after a lot of research, I'm going with an Eastwood Sidejack DLX:

Good luck to you sticking it out on the Marauder--I laud your patience. Maybe I'll come back to the Marauder after Fender works out the production/supply issues.

Really guys, if Fender can't produce the goods, there are thousands of other good guitars, new and used, you would be happy with. Reminds me of a car dealer telling you he can't keep a certain model in stock, but he can order you one for list price, when you can look down the road and see an endless number of cars on his competitor's lots that want to be sold.
