I decided to give my cp jazzmaster a surgical beauty, new pickups. But a lot came in my mind about it and I'm pretty new to it (the fact that I'm much of an strat and les paul player):

-I kept wondering do humbuckers fit in a jazzmaster or obviously you need trembuckers? or will either one of them fit?

-have anyone tried the vintage split humbuckers? I was gonna put it on but don't want it to be all country/folk sounding like the tele deluxe. in fact, this question is retarded, just forget it if you want. But if you can help, I'm looking for a good alternative sounding pickups that can make lee ranaldo piss his pants. seymour duncan is the direction im looking at, aiming at the 59 or jb model for the bridge, and the neck could be a little fancy than the stock jm pickup.

-I'm planning to cover both of those pickups in a nickel plate cover, will it still fit and safe enough to play?

-here's a stupid one, if i were to keep the stock jm pickups.....can i cover them with (humbucker/trembucker) nickel cover?

and that's pretty much it. Told you i'm pretty new to it. remind me if i made any stupid questions so i can kick my own $@! as a moderate technical guitar fixie.

Please consider Fender American Vintage Reissue Jazzmaster pups.

Installed them on the mid-90s MIJ JM and the pups are AMAZING!

Made the instrument a REAL Jazzmaster.

+1!

Curtis Novak also offers a couple of nice Jazzmaster replacements -- one's a clone of the early '60s windings and the other is a slightly over-wound coil that nudges into P90 territory. Can't help with the pickup covers though -- I'm a guitarist, not a fashionista.

+1 on the Novaks
I am pretty sure I'm gonna drop some Novaks in my Jazzmaster.

The pickups are a big part of what makes a jazzmaster a jazzmaster. If you put humbuckers in there, it won't be a jazzmaster any more. So I don't understand why you want to do this. If you wanted the humbucker sound, why not buy a Les Paul?
