Got a new CAR Mustang Pawnshop Special for Christmas. I also have a Mustang III DSP amp I play through. Over the last several weeks, the Mustang Special has developed an annoying distorted sound on the neck pickup with the coil split to the front (you can split the coil front or back with the slider switches). It's really annoying when playing through the #93 Twin Reverb patch on the Mustang III. I know there has been a "fizz" issue with the Mustang amps. Mine has the newest 1.6 firmware on it that fixes this. Plus, my other, gigging "go to" guitar, a 1982 MIA Bullet with a strat coil in the neck and a SD Hotrails in the Bridge doesn't make any such sounds. Never did before the firmware upgrade either. The front single coil is nice and clean through the Mustang III amp. So I am pretty certain the amp has nothing to do with this. I am wondering if My Mustang Special guitar has a possible shielding issue? The rear humbucker is fine either split or not. The front pickup is not noisy in humbucking mode or split on the rear side. Any thoughts on how to get rid of this annoying distorted sound on the front Pickup split on the front coil? It's driving me nuts. Thanks!

I say no to shielding but have you adjusted anything? If you just got it the best advise to take it to your local fender dealer it should be under warranty

My neck pickup had issues but all related to the cheap 3-way toggle. It would cut out, distort, make a weird trem effect. Replaced with a Switchcraft "shorty" and all is well.

I also changed that ugly $@! Strat hardtail to a string-through Toronado bridge which has a lower profile and fits the pickguard. Wasn't sure how that would work out it but the mod was simple, not drop-in simple, but easy enough and everything setup so much better with the new bridge in place.
