I'm going to be purchasing a Japanese Fender Jaguar Reissue on Thursday. The guitar has already been modified, exactly how I want it to be (Fender Mustang Bridge).

The guitar has two single coil pickups at the moment (Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders)

I was planning on putting a set of humbuckers (Seymour Duncan JB) onto the guitar, instead of the single coil pickups.

I understand I can use stacked humbuckers (Seymour Duncan Hot Rails) already but I have heard they arent as good as the full size humbuckers.

I play a lot of grunge, punk, new wave, hard rock, alternative rock music and I'm looking for a dirty sound when distorted and a good clean sound when on clean.

Does anyone know how much it would roughly cost for me to get this guitar routed? Does anybody know of any stores that route guitars in Scotland? What would happen to the guitar? Where can I get a new pickguard (red tortoise shell) for humbuckers and how much will that cost?

Any help would be appreciated. Thankyou

-Peace-

You should explore other options before resulting to routing.

1) you destroy any resale value
2) you can likely get the sounds you need from the single coils by adding stuff to your effects chain
3) i'm sure you can find a stacked that will work almost as well without chewing up the guitar
4) all of the above will cost less than a pro routing job

I say MOD away, make that guitar yours! I have dealt with warmoth for pickguards, and they're fairly priced. As for the routing, I know people in Texas...I'm sure it wouldn't cost more than $100 USD.

Don't worry about resale value, they're meant to be played and modded! If you look on Craigslist, people offer set ups and guitar mod jobs for much cheaper than retail stores. CL is never as bad as some people say. Just use common sense and you can get a good price. I emailed a store having an ad up and it would cost $50 for routing + $20 for installation!
