My Jaguar Blacktop is a great little guitar, and provides a real change from my Strat for a couple of heavier songs in our set. Problem is, the strings have a habit of rattling, or even jumping off the saddles, when I play hard. Probably not helped by the fact that we usually play down-tuned to Eb and one of the songs I use the Jag on is in drop D tuning - so the bottom string is actually a C#, so pretty slack.

The root cause of the problem is that the tailpiece is such a long way from the bridge, so the break angle of the strings across the saddles is very shallow. Looking at the guitar the other night, our other guitarist came up with the idea of feeding the strings though the tailpiece from the bridge side, then wrapping them underneath it before passing over the bridge - sort of an upside down version of the way Joe Bonamassa wraps the strings over the top of the tailpiece on his Les Paul. I tried it last night and it works brilliantly - no more rattles, no more jumping off the saddles.

Just thought it was worth posting in case anyone else is looking for a solution to the same problem.

Interesting; especially since it solved the problem and cost you nothing. This is surely a 'win-win' situation and a great tip!
