I own a Jagstang, and like most people who do own one will admit, the guitars suck. At least the the stock pickups do. It is a neat little, quirky guitar that sounds as thin and harsh as you could imagine. It has no tone, and worst, it has no sustain. The funky floating bridge makes tuning stability a nightmare. I am a Nirvana fan for sure, but that's the only reason I haven't sold this guitar. Besides, Kurt barely even played his before he passed away. Most of his live guitars were cheap Fernandez strats, or import strats. The 2 current models offered by Fender are the Fender's he was known for. Besides, even if they do reissue the Jagstang again, would it be worth $900 + (like Fender would charge)? I say not a chance! The current mustang reissue model offered by Fender is a total rip-off at it's current price. It costs just a few dollars less than an American Standard Strat or Tele ? LOL What a joke!

IMO this is not only a matter of "Will it sell" but more a tribute to the player.

In the past Fender have put signature guitars on the market that they must have expected not to be bestsellers.

And the pickup and bridge problems can often easily be solved with a little adjusting. I've had several new guitars that didn't seem good out of the box, but worked out fine after a little tlc.

The point: Fender should reissue the Jagstang along the mustang and the jaguar.

I think Fender should drastically reduce the price of the Mustang, and put a tummy cut away like the originals( I know the year they are reproducing did not have one). $930 for a STUDENT MEXICAN MADE guitar is wayyy to much, which is why I am not going to buy one.. I will at $600 though..

Just like I said..... LOL Kurt didn't play it much. And anyone who owned a Jagstang will tell you they suck.....BAD. I probably won't ever sell mine, just because of how weird it is, and how I doubt it will be reissued again....and even if they do reissue it, then my first run Jagstang will be even more overpriced :D

cobain didnt really like the jag stang i think he played it once on stage. the jagstang was just an interesting idea that just didnt work. Even though the KC mustang is made in japan (i think) 900 dollars is still alot when the cheapest american strat is 800.

I just dont think its worth it who knows maybe for his 50th birthday theyll reissue it (at the price of 1200 dollars made in mexico)

fender should really start pricing these guitars better cobains jaguar is MIM for 1300 is insane

I have to agree, they do have a pretty cheap sound to them, even with decent pickups fitted. Some like that though, especially my 10 month old son :)

Most his live guitars were American or Japanese made guitars, he just had alot of different necks on them. The Mustangs are made in Japan and Japanese guitars are typically made just as well as American guitars. But I do agree that $900 is a bit much, and against the reason Kurt played them at all.

It was reissued already, sort of. Originally produced from 94 to 01 then "reissued" in 03 to 05.

Hate to revive a really old topic, but I just had to say that with a few modifications, the Jag-Stang is a very unique and great guitar.

As one person pointed out, I will admit that when I first got it, it sat in my closet unplayed for about 8 months and didn't distract me from my modded Fender '51.

Before we get further, I just though I should add that mine is not the basswood version, it is made of solid alder and is the reissue from 2003-2005. Q-serial number.
After wanting to desperately turn this into my main guitar, I sought out to mod it. I had Curtis Novak wind me a '59 Les Paul humbucker and a '65 Jaguar pickup. I also ditched the stock 250k pots and the stock capacitor for 500k USA CTS pots and a .047 Sprague Orange Drop cap. I also rewired the stock Mustang switches to have the switch above the neck single-coil control as a pickup selector (Neck-Both-Bridge) and the switch above the humbucker act as a coil-splitter (Split-Full-Split; either side out of middle splits the humbucker). Since I never use the vibrato, I also removed the bridge and tailpiece and moved the springs to the furthest notch to create the most tension and I also lowered the tailpiece so it is almost flush with the bridge. The guitar now sustains incredibly.

Besides the incredible sustain, I obviously get amazing Jaguar-esque tones from the Jag pickup. I say esque because it is obviously not dead on with the 500k pots and all. Using both the Les Paul and the Jag pickup in combo, I can get some pretty spanky almost Telecaster-eqsue tones out of it. Obviously when using the '59 Les Paul on its on, I get awesome chunky distortion tones out of it. When I split the humbucker, I also feel like I can get some very convincing single-coil, Stratocaster style tones. I felt like I turned this in to an incredibly versatile guitar and it has since become my main guitar. I have never struggled with it being neck-heavy, and it has the greatest neck on any Fender guitar ever made. I picked mine up off a Craigslist ad in 2010 for $300 and with the mods I have about $600 total into the guitar. If you can get one at the right price, in my opinion this is my favorite model that Fender ever produced.
