Hi all,

Does anyone know for definite where this guitar is manufactured? I can't find any info on Fenders' website or anywhere else confirming it's Japanese crafted?

I'm pretty sure i'm gonna buy one, but not if it's made in Mexico as my MIM tele had a pretty poor finish. Is the Japanese build quality equivalent to USA made?

Also - Why doesn't the left hand version have 'Mustang' written on the headstock like the right hand version. It just has 'Fender'

Cheers!

the cobain mustangs are made in japan. Japanese guitars are very well made and sometimes rival MIA guitars. Still the idea of owning a vintage mustang is pretty cool but will cost you about 300-500 more dollars

I bought one a couple of weeks ago and can assure it is made in Japan. The build quality is top notch very close or equal to my american strat. Don't expect much in the way of case candy (dosen't even have a case) but the guitar is worth the price. I believe that model numbers 025 and 027 indicate that a fender is made in japan.

Nice one...what colour did you go for? I'm pretty stuck on the sonic blue. Is yours a lefty? I'm still wondering why the lefties don't have 'mustang' written on the headstock like the right hand version?

Mines sonic blue and a righty. I think the sonic blue is the closest to one of his actual guitars. Not sure about the printing on the lefty model.

I've got a choice between a used (lefty) 2004 MIA strat, absolutely mint condition in tri sunburst, with hard case or the Cobain mustang. I've always wanted a sonic blue / red tortoiseshell combo guitar colour, plus I love Nirvana and particularly Cobain's songwriting and lyrical ability. There is a lot of talk about the short scale of mustang and having not actually seen one its difficult to imagine the difference in size between this and a strat?

I just don't know if my desires for the mustang will be short lived. You can't really go wrong with the strat.

Genuine dilemma!

Japanese Fenders are great. I have a Japanese Squier Strat and a Tele. I recently played a Hot Rod US Tele and it was no nicer than my Tele. My Squier plays as well as the US guitars that I've played as well. You can't go wrong with Fender Japan.

You must have gotten a bad Mexican Tele. I have 3 Mexican Strats that are great. No problems with the finish or anything else. Don't give up on Mexican Fenders. If you get a good one you have a good one.

Defo Japan.

MIM stuff has been hit or miss for me. IMO USA>Japan>Mexico.
