Hello,

I just purchased a Jaguar Blacktop Series from my local Guitar Center. It isn't your run of the mill Jaguar BT. The color is Blizzard Frost, the neck is "bound", rosewood, and the knobs are Jazz Bass style, not the skirted amplifier. It is a cool Jag to say the least. The quality would have you double taking it to be American made not MIM.

I am trying to find some information on this guitar like an owners manual. The salesman was "uninformed" about his products yet claimed to play Fenders for over 20 years. He could play, I will give him that. When I paid for the Jag I asked for the Fender owners manual and tags. I am a bit anal about this and he said he would look and never did. I didn't stress it too much as I thought I would get home and find it online. I called the store today and asked again but they said they don't come with manuals. I find that odd and given the attentiveness I got from the first salesman I'm sure the guy on the phone wasn't going to leave his station to miss out on a sale.

I am unable to find it on Fender website which was a bit disapointing. I've searched the Internet everywhere for the Jag BT models with the specs of the model I purchased. Nothing. There is a Fender sticker on the back of the tuner headstock that says special edition. Other than that as far as I am concerned this is a one of kind. The store had another one with same hardware but was sea-sick green. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was the actual advertised color.

The model number is: 014 0096 566. The reciept printout is very hard to read so this may not be the correct number.

Anyway, if anyone can help me identify or provide any information on this run of Jaguar BT series would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

db

You might want to check some of the older Catalogs/Price lists on line. http://www.fender.com/support/library/

Possible it is in there and not the current offerings.

I just bought this awesome guitar on Friday at a Guitar Center on Long Island NY. I couldn't find any info on it anywhere until I went back and bought it after playing a few days prior and falling in love with it. You have a rare guitar my friend. The only info I could find is that only 30 of these were released in the UK. Its a great axe. Fits my style perfectly and the neck is what sold me. Anyway, heres the only thing I could find on the web on this Jag.

Does the tone knob on yours do nothing from 10-2 and then its all George Benson? I found a forum post and someone had this on this guitar model and I have it to. If it wasn't so rare, at the moment, instead of changing the pot for a better tapper, I'd try a switch. But seriously, I absolutely LOVE this guitar. I named mine Norrin Radd (for comic book dorks like myself) Cheers!

oh ok, that one looks sea green. The one from the website was identical to my guitar but you could be right and its just that model with different paint jobs and put out as a GC exclusive. Either way I really like it a lot. Dope guitar IMO :D

Newest member of my family. Anyway, I thought this was the one they are talking about in the UK with a run of 30 but I could be wrong. I can't find anything on it from Guitar center except my receipt. The Blacktop Special Edition HH is a much different guitar. That model you posted looks a lot like mine just a different color. Who knows? All I know is it sounds awesome and the neck is fast and I like it a lot. @DB my model number is different. 0140036555 but does mine look like yours?

Heyya All!,

Thanks for the fantastic info! @ XUBIUS, yes, that's exactly like the one I have with the "
Special Edition" decal! I wasn't sure what I had but I figured it was rare. I love it too. The neck is nice and smooth with the binding and love the HH configuration. Great sustain. As far as the tone... Yes, I've noticed not much difference between 2-8 than 8-10 get adjustment. The first thing I "was" going to do was swap out the pot but if this is as rare as it appears I'll live with it.

I'm a huge fan of Fender but this is my first new one. I've been trying to sell a retrofitted MIM Strat to help cover the costs of the Jag but I can't give it away. Does Fender MIM typically have special editions and do they hold their value? I doubt I'll ever get rid of this but I also like to own rare instruments.

Thanks again everyone for the links. I searched and searched but thanks to you I got the confirmation I was hoping for!

Ciao,
dgbwashington

I have just bought one of these here in the UK ,.iIs an FSR blizzard pearl .Really fine guitar and well worth the money quality and sound wise .Mine doesnt have the special edition sticker but other than that its the same .I think the Seafoam Green Pearl is US issue only .I've just finished a 3 hour session and love it. We played blues and even some country .It passed with flying colors ..I am now converted to short scale and the Jaguar shape which seems far better than a tele ergonomically .

Had the same issue with my Jaguar Blacktop HH. The tone pot fitted as standard is a 500k linear taper - changed mine for a 250k logarithmic that I had lying around and it's perfect. You might want to try that on yours.

Well an update on my Jaguar... Still loving it but the pickup switch flaked out on me. I'm having replaced as I write this. I miss it already! I've also noticed some grounding issues with it and asked the warranty repair to check that out too. I usually do this myself but since it is under warranty I'll let them deal with it. Anyone else have problems with grounding? Seems like that is the big difference I can tell from the American/Mex models is the Q/A of the electronics. I have a Mex strat that looked like a five year old soldered.

I just picked up my FSR BT Jag Blizzard Pearl from Guitar Center Crestwood (St. Louis, MO) yesterday. Had it shipped from the GC in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

I was disappointed that for some reason mine came with the skirted amp knobs just like the regular blacktop series. the senior guitar guy at GC Crestwood says he saw a few of the FSRs come with the regular skirted amp knobs but he did not let me go home disappointed... he swapped my knobs out for the Jazz/Jag knobs on the spot! Seriously great customer service at both the GCs in Crestwood and Rancho Cucamonga on this mail-order transaction!

I really love this Jag... it is my first "non-caster" Fender and my first 24 scale guitar ever. I had never seen a bound neck on a Fender before (although I know there are a few models out there with bound necks... even a high-end Strat which seems weird!) I think it gives me everything I could want out of a Les Paul without having to get a Les Paul... which is a good thing because I have never liked the looks of the Les Paul especially over a nice retro-vibey looking Fender!

A search of the GC website seems to indicate this special run is sold out in their stores at least. I have read that only 30 of these guitars went across the pond to Europe but I can't find any numbers for North America.
