That is one beautiful guitar! I am SO jealous, but glad you finally have it! I especially like the woodgrain on the headstock. I want this guitar so badly, but have to wait until the end of March for the lake placid blue ones to arrive at the warehouse. I'll probably have to wait at least another week after that for it to be shipped to me. I think it will be worth it, though. Enjoy!

It will be well worth the wait. I had to wait nearly 2 months for mine, and I was worried that somebody would buy it out from under me. I feel the same way now about the J Mascis Jazzmaster that the local guitar shop has. Hopefully it will last another couple of months until I get the money to buy it.

bugo,

So, how are you enjoying the new Marauder? If possible, could you provide a short review of it? I still have many, many days to go until I get mine. UGH!!!

This guitar is great. The fit and finish is just as good as some American Fenders that I've played. The neck is awesome. It is very fast. It is glossy but doesn't have the cheap feeling thick finish that the CVs have (I'm not knocking CVs, as they are great guitars, but the finish on the neck is too thick.) The jumbo frets aren't too tall like some big frets are. The ends of the frets are perfectly smooth. The '70s style headstock with the simple '50s Fender logo on it is very cool. The triplebucker has a massive sound. It is actually louder and crunchier in the humbucker setting, and is better for palm muting and metal-style playing. In 3 coil mode, the pickup sounds fat and smooth but a little more mellow than it sounds in humbucker mode. It sounds a bit thinner in single coil mode, but not that much different than it sounds in triplebucker mode. The triplebucker is great, but the Jazzmaster pickup steals the show. It has that smooth, punchy, hollow sound. It does hum in all positions except for position 1, which is the 2 back coils of the triplebucker, but the humming isn't excessive. The chrome is tasteful and gives the guitar a bit of bling. The only thing I would change about the guitar is to add a second tone control knob. When I play it, I can't help but to think "this is a $335 guitar?" (I got a good deal on mine. The online retailers are selling them for $399, which is still a tremendous value.)

I let my brother play it and he fell in love with it. He said he likes it even better than he likes my '80s Japanese Telecaster, and he loves that guitar. He is a shredder, and he liked the Jazzmaster pickup. He said that a Marauder is going to be his next guitar. He was originally going to get a black one, but he said he liked the LPB so much that he might get that color.

I went back to the guitar store on Tuesday to buy a shirt. I was talking to the guy who works there and he remembered me and asked me how I liked the guitar. He said that there had been several guys that came in after I bought it asking where it was. I guess I bought it in the nick of time. I had gone to Guitar Center before I went to the store that I bought the Marauder at, and asked them if they were getting any of them in. They said no, because they didn't think they would be able to sell them. Nonsense. If they had have had one, I would have bought it (I'm glad I got it where I did, because I got to support a local business and because I got a much better deal.) The guy at the store said that he played the Marauder and that he loved it. Everyone who has seen or played the guitar has had nothing but good things to say about it.

I highly recommend this guitar. I like it more and more every time I play it. I can't find any faults with it. The setup from the factory was perfect.

Does anybody know if the neck pickup is a true Jazzmaster pickup or a P90? I read that the J Mascis Jazzmaster's pickups are P90s in Jazzmaster shells.

I forgot to mention the monster sustain of the triplebucker. Chords ring and ring and ring for much longer than they do on my Strats or my Tele. More than twice as long. I was really surprised the first time I let a D chord decay.

I got a really good one. But I have a feeling that they are all good. I played a Modern Player Thinline Telecaster with P90s and it was great as well. The MP and CV series is proof that China is catching up if they haven't already caught up. I did get lucky on the headstock. I didn't even notice the woodgrain until after I got it home. I can't get over how nice this guitar is. My brother raves about it and he wants one. He did want a Blacktop Tele but he played my guitar and he wants the Marauder first.

You're going to love your guitar. It will be well worth the wait.

It took 3 months for my black Marauder to arrive after I order it from L&M in Canada. I live it Winnipeg and I had one intercepted from a store in Calgary, 1400 kms away. This guitar is well worth the wait. I played it for 10 hours straight, straight out of the box. It was setup perfectly. I know that my 95 MIM Strat is very jealous. Words cannot begin to describe how much value I place on this guitar. I am sure that the Fender Global Inc. knows they have an absolute winner on there hands with the entire Modern Player Series line. I paid $399 CDN for the guitar. I would have paid twice that and had been pleased. In fact, I want to add the MPS Tele next.

Value = Quality + Price This guitar has it all.

Pros
Number one for me is the design of this guitar. It's an incredibly beautiful, balanced mash-up of Fender design elements throughout their history. From the fat CBS headstock, with a simple, classic Fender trademark, uncluttered by model and serial numbers, revealing nice wood grain, to the pearloid fret dots, jumbo-ish frets which are expertly filed into the fretboard. Run your hand up and down the smooth, fast neck and you will not feel one fret burr, even though the neck has no binding. Plus, it's a shred-inducing 22 frets. The pickguard is tri-colour, 3-ply with an authentic looking, aged pearloid pattern. The pickguard shape reminds me of the Pawnshop model with the Jazz Bass style jack plate. The Jazz Master style body is actually smaller that a real Jazz, but is very comfortable. The electronics and pickups are the true genius of this design. The P-90 style neck pickup is a bluesy dream. The triplebucker is thunderous. No need to put a Seymour Duncan there as I initially thought. The tonal range of this setup, is no less than amazing. I cannot believe versatility in sound that can be achieved with the right amp/effects that suit your particular musical style. The overall build quality of this guitar rivals or perhaps exceeds guitars manufactured in Japan or Mexico at a fraction of the cost.

Cons
There are a few but nothing that would disway any potential buyer at this price point. The guitar is a little light in weight, good for some, but initially, it made me think it wood quality wasn't there. The guitar could probably use a little more copper shielding in body cavity and behind the pickguard. There is little more noticeable hum with the single coils than my Strat, which makes for a little more noisy sound, especially when recording. I will put some copper shielding in, when I get a chance. It will cost me between $5-$20 depending on much is needed, plus the time to install it. The traditional Fender 6 screw tremolo is not nearly as good as the modern 2 point tremolo and the stamped bridge saddles don't have the sustain as other saddle designs. Consider replacing the bridge if you use a lot of whammy bar.

Conclusion
If you love Fender guitars, as I do, you have to add a unique looking and sounding Marauder to your collection - that is if you can find one. At that price, they are flying off the rack. I already cherish this instrument and with a couple of mods (surprisingly not many) I can see this guitar as being the only guitar I take to band practice or a gig.

cadman_wpg_jets,

Thanks for taking the time to give your feedback on your Marauder. I have one on order in the lake placid blue color, and it will arrive in three days. I've been waiting about two months for it, so I'm looking forward to finally getting it. I played one in black a couple of months ago at a local Guitar Center, and noticed the humming issue in some of the pickup positions. Other than that, I was really pleased with the guitar for the price (I'm getting mine for $369.00). I'm not in a band, but do home recording, so I think this guitar will serve me well with its versatile tones. I'll probably have my local luthier set it up for me, and I suspect that I'll need to make adjustments due to the humming. Overall, though, I think the Marauders are going to be collector's items down the road (IMHO).

Yes, thanks to cadman_wpg_jets for the review. I mostly agree with what he said. Mine was also set up perfectly. It is indeed a very versatile guitar. I thought I would like the triplebucker, but I like the Jazzmaster pickup just as much or more than the triplebucker. I play through a lot of distortion and delay when I play lead style stuff, and I turn the tone down and switch to the neck pickup. The Jazzmaster pickup is well suited for this sound. I also notice that I play differently than I play my Strats or Tele. The build quality is second to none, and isn't far from the quality of an American Fender (I have read many reviews of the Modern Player series that say the exact same thing.) They have also been compared to the Squier Classic Vibes, but they seem higher in quality to me, and they have a thinner poly coating than the CVs have, making them feel less plasticy and artificial. And I think the lightness of the guitar is not because it's cheap, but because it is made of Koto wood, which I assume is a light wood. I do agree that it hums in every position except for the humbucking position (position 2) but not too badly.

I like my Marauder and I'd like to buy another one to put in a case in a closet so I would have a backup so in case they don't make many of them and something happens to mine.

Which Tele are you getting? The HSS or the Thinline? I played the Thinline.

So, I just wanted to mention that my Marauder arrived yesterday (finally!). It's the LPB color, which is absolutely beautiful. I love everything about the guitar so far, but have a question for other Marauder owners out there. I've been noticing that the volume knob only starts to get loud after the knob has been turned almost completely around to its stopping point. I've been experimenting with the volume knob with all of the pickups positions, but it does the same thing for all of them. It's a little annoying, but considering the cheap price tag for the guitar, I'm not complaining too much. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm probably going to have my local guitar tech set up the guitar soon, and I'm wondering how much work it would take to have the volume knob fixed.

I haven't noticed this, but I always turn the volume all the way up. The only time I turn the volume off is if I'm not going to be playing the guitar for a minute or two.
