a local shop has a mint MIM 1993 Duo-Sonic. They are asking $300 for the thing. I'm lookling for a guitar with a different sound and something smaller to travel with. I would like to just pullthe guys out of it drop in a new switch (one of the weakpoints) vintage noiseless pups and a new jack along with a set of vintage tuners and a bone nut. By the time I get all of the work done I'm looking at close to $600 for a guitar that is going to be the throw in the car for a long road trip when I don't want to take my strat with me.

At this point it looks like it would be cheaper to pick up a used affinity tele and have the work done and come in at the $300 price of the duo sonic. So, thoughts? Which would be the wiser move?

with the duo-sonic, don't forget you'll have to change out the string saddles for that thing to intonate properly. MiamiMike has a thread about it in the squier section! They're fun little guitars until you want to hit a note past the 19th fret.

The Duo-Sonic you're talking about has only 20 frets.

I know it only has 20, I played it for an hour. I have looked at conversion necks as well.

My friend had one, a late '90s black version. It was OK, nothing special. I would offer the guy $200 or maybe $250 for it.
