Hi all,
Is, by pushing the tremolo button towards the neck of the guitar locking the system or is it the other way. If I use both positions I still am able to use the whammy bar, though I don't use it to strongly in case it should be locked. I don't want to break anything.

I believe you push the button away from the neck. Even with the lock engaged you should be able to push the bar down, dropping pitch, but you will be unable to raise pitch by pulling. You should ensure that the trem is also properly adjusted so the lock slides into place at standard tuning/tension. You do this by adjusting the screw nearest to the button. If the button doesn't slide freely (or at all) when you are not touching the bar, turn the screw counter clock-wise, and vise-versa if the button slides into place and you can still move the bar upwards (raise pitch) easily.

Hope this helps!

I just bought a used 2010 Classic Player Jag HH and am loving it. However, I'm having trouble installing a new trem bar I purchased (the guitar didn't come with one). I'm pushing the bar all the way in the hole but it's not grabbing onto anything to secure it into place. Also, I tried sliding the button into the locked position, toward the trem arm as described in this post (it slides "loose", as opposed to the unlocked position which slides "snug") and the bridge floats down either way when I push the arm into the hole.

I don't want to push down hard or break something. Any suggestions?

On mine, the trem bar screws in, not pushes in, and it needs a small spring in the hole to hold it in position once screwed in.

Sounds like your lock button / trem assembly needs adjusting. The adjusting screw should be turned such that the lock button just slides into place and holds at normal string tension. Locked, you can only bend pitch down, and if a string breaks, the trem mechanism won't bounce up and detune the rest of the guitar. Unlocked and you can bend up a bit as well as down. But the Jag doesn't do the really steep dives that other trem systems do in any case.
