Most of the Marauders that I've seen in pictures don't have the name "Marauder" on the headstock. The one I played doesn't either. I have seen a picture of one with "Marauder" on the headstock. Are the early ones kind of like "Nocasters" and the newer ones have the name? Did they decide on the name at the last minute and didn't have time to put "Marauder" on the headstock?

BTW the Marauder is a VERY nice guitar. The local guitar shop has a Lake Placid Blue Marauder that I have my eyes on. They are great playing, the materials and craftsmanship are top notch, and they are very versatile, not to mention a great value. I would prefer they not be built in China, but almost everything is made over there now.

The Marauder is a very nice playing guitar, I have one in black myself. Mine has no name on the headstock and all of the ones I have seen do not either. Where have you seen one with the name on the headstock?

I saw one with the name on the headstock in an ad in a magazine.

Was it Seventies style writing like the 70's Strat or modern small type? Would love to see it.

I think it's just for the magazine and internet pictures. I see that too but only a image not the real deal. Fender probably send those images to ad the guitar before it's made.

Do any other Fenders currently come with the large headstock and the spaghetti logo? The Kurt Cobain Jaguar maybe?

Maybe they'll be valuable as Norauders?

I like the idea of the Norauder. Hopefully the 2012 models will have the name on the headstock.

There's a picture of a black Marauder at zzounds.com that shows the Marauder name on the headstock. I haven't seen a LPB with the name. I'd say that it was only on the black Marauders but somebody on this forum bought a new black Marauder with no name on the headstock. The mystery continues.

i was thinking about buying one NOW just to hopefully get a Norauder, then it hit me...
what a marketting ploy!!
after the Nocaster skyrocketted in value due to the lack of a headstock name, why not try to lure in a new generation who want their own Fender No---?

there's a couple issues though:
1) the Nocaster wasn't built in China
2) the Nocaster wasn't produced in the giant numbers the Norauder most likely is
3) the build materials

those 2 little facts stayed my hand on musician's friend: this thing could take decades to be worth any more than MSRP. and by then, you've probably replaced or modified parts to the point it's too 'personalized' for a decent resale if your band hasn't gone multi-platinum :P

still, can't blame fender for realizing what collectors might look for, and getting them to try something new by doing it again. i personally wouldn't have looked at the marauder twice if it hadn't been for the blank headstock.

Nobody is saying that the Marauder will ever be worth what a Nocaster is. But it's neat having a guitar that is a bit of an oddball. To me, an oddball guitar is more interesting than a valuable guitar. And you can play them without worrying about dinging them up.

yeah, i was just replying to:

that DOES still have me a bit intrigued, just... not as much once i soaked in all the facts on the thing and realized it might not get overly valuable until it had been passed down to my grandchildren's children.
i'd also be buying it as a beater primarily, cause the guitars i DO have currently put out a wider variety of tones than i typically need, lol, and i'd also destroy anybody who scratched one (with the exception of a Bullet, i've already thrown that across the driveway to give it a better beater-look)

a Norauder is still on my wish list... i'll probly still buy one eventually (whether they fix the headstock or not; MP-90 tone is the only thing i don't have, though the Dragster pickups on the jag-special get REAL close)... it's just not on my "find a ski mask, get this NOW" short-list. and i'd definitely be loathed to sell any of my existing arsenal for it...

Has anybody taken their Marauder apart? Is the pickup a true Jazzmaster pickup or a P90 like in the J Mascis Jazzmaster?
