I suppose it is supposed to reflect ALL of the variations of Jaguar over the last 50 years. Hotter, Classic Player pickups are a part of that. And I much prefer the press in Trem arm. No screws to loose.

As far as the mute, who knows what they were thinking? It is drilled for the mute though, at least mine is.

Mine came in Lake Placid Blue and looks great, Sorry about your paint job.

I know about the dings and things eventually showing up; that's precisely why I bought new from a Canadian retailer (and also to help keep Canadian retailers in business), rather than pay $400 less and buy off eBay. The finish flaws were on the parts of the guitar touching the case bottom (on the body and beind the neck); . The flaw on the neck was particularly annoying, being behind the third fret or so, and acting as a brake when going up and down the neck (like those felt strips they used to put on old cross-country skis to help keep from sliding backwards when going up an incline).

Interesting that nobody seems to disagree with my comment about the cheap plastic binding :?:

By the way, I am waiting for a replacement; should eventually get here.

Actually, it is the same kind of "cheap plastic" that Epiphone uses. But the Epiphone binding is an aged off-white. I think if it had been designated 50th Anniversary Relic'd Jaguar, they might have put the aged binding on the Jag. JMO

my first good electric guitar was a Jag bought in a pawn shop in 1975. Sunburst, someone had put a humbucker on the neck. Had to sell it 3 years later, was very broke going to school on GI bill.

So now I'm 64, thought it fitting to get a 50th anniversary Jag. The build quality & set up is great, the burgundy metallic looks better in real life than in the picture. This guitar sounds chimey-er than the Jag I bought in the pawn shop way back when.

If this is indeed a "limited" run, and the vintage market continues, it might be worth $$$ to a collector down the road. Then I can tell my wife that all these guitars are really investments, not guady toys.

I love guitars and learning the stories of all your guitars

Thanks for the insight. Difference between these two guitars being over $1,000, I expect higher-quality material.

Still waiting for the replacement :(

I'm in the UK. I bought my 50th Anniversary Jaguar earlier this year, LPB.
I loved it! A bit of fret buzz, but I sorted that, loved the binding, trem a bit lose though.
After a few weeks I noticed a 2mm paint chip inside the cutaway. I could't believe it, how could I have dinged it there?? A couple of weeks later more flaking from the body. Then, I knew these weren't dings, the paint was just flaking off.

I returned it to the retailer who returned the Jag to Fender UK for 'assessment' who said it was a 'lamination' problem.
So......... they're making a new body in the US, shipping it over here and rebuilding it with the original neck, pick ups and all the other stuff. I hope they have a good guy on the job!!
Looks like I'll be waiting about 3 months.
Has anyone else had this problem? I understand that there have been similar paint problems with the Johnny Marr Jags.

Just double checked mine and the paint is still holding up just fine. Sorry you are having issues with that. Hope everything works out with the new body.

Thanks Art......... I'm glad yours is still looking good. I guess I was just unlucky.
I expect that it will be getting on to the end of the year before I see my Jag again, or should I say see my rebuilt Jag again. I'm hoping they have someone who really knows :) what they're doing when it comes to the re-build.
Meanwhile I still have my deluxe Strat & deluxe Tele for the gigs. An old man needs his Fenders!
Regards,
Kevin

With luck, the custom shop will be doing the paint job for you. LPB is not a production color for Jaguars now. A few years back I wanted one in a color that is used on some Strats but not Jaguars and had to go through the custom shop. Of course, I ended up with a much better 62 NOS jag in Pewter because of that.

No telling, but here's hoping January turns out good for you. :D

Would love to see the '62 Pewter.
It would be great if the Custom Shop did my new body.
When they said they had to make a new body, I wondered why?
Yes, it's a 50th Anniversary Jag & I guess there was a limited number made but
I wondered why they couldn't use a Fender 2012 American Vintage '65 body,
but are these still in production? didn't on the '65.
Here we are before the paint started to flake!

The Trem/Vibrato/Whammy is closer to the bridge on the the 50th anniversary than the vintage model. It's about the same as the Classic Player Jaguar body. But since there was a major flaw with yours, they probably don't want to "import" a Mexican body because you paid for a product built in the U.S.A.

Notice the distance between trem and bridge on my Vintage.

Here's Lizzy:
