After the Kurt Cobain signature Jaguar, here's another big surprise from Fender, guaranteed to please all die-hard Nirvana fans: a faithful recreation of the late Seattle grunge supremo's Mustang guitar which served as a template for the now-discontinued JagStang!

This muscled grunge rock machine features a Seymour Duncan JB humbucker in the bridge position and is available in Fiesta Red, Sonic Blue and Lake Placid Blue with competition stripes.

All finishes are also available in left-handed versions.

err, why cant they bring it out as a non-cobain guitar? i like the design and that its got competition stripes but i dont want to play another man's instrument. If it didnt have his name on it i would buy it.

I'll take the Sonic Blue!

I don't think that it will have his name on it. The Comp Mustang isn't even that close to his anyway. Kurt's had a matching headstock and wasn't routed for a humbucker. I think they just included it because they knew it was a popular color. USA Custom Shop will probably eventually do this guitar but of course that would be very pricey.

Kurt Cobain was sent 4 Mustangs from Japan to be routed for humbuckers. 3 Sonic Blue and 1 Fiesta Red Mustang. These are what the models are based on.

Fender has no plans to reissue the JagStang in the near future, even with a few minor improvements.

This guitar started life as a Custom Shop model in 1993 before being released as a regular MIJ Artist signature instrument three years later.

The last time I saw the JagStang as a reissue was in 2003.

There were also rumours about a matching bass version, however this project never came into fruition.

They could release the Jag-Stang in 2014 as that would mark the 20th anniversary of the Jag-Stang. Also there is the 20th anniversary of In Utero coming up next year.

Also does anyone know if the Kurt Cobain Jaguar is limited edition or if they are going to continue to run them?

If Fender reissues the JagStang in 2013 (because the guitar was first introduced in 1993 and not in 1994), I bet they'll offer the 20th anniversary version as a limited-run Custom Shop Special Edition package which include the JagStang guitar and a matching JagStang Bass.

The original JagStang was built by Larry L. Brooks.

Though Larry had quit the CS long years ago, there are other guys who can build the JagStang pair...

Kurt's Stang was MIJ, so I think his signature Jaguar and Mustang are also Japanese, even if the Mustang is made out from genuine USA components.

The KC Jaguar is made in Mexico. The Mustang was advertised on the Japan website on a blog so I'm pretty sure we can conclude that it is MIJ.

Just noticed it was removed. Fender should go ahead and just give an official launch because everyone is talking about it and spreading all kinds of information.
