Hi Craig,
After playing this guitar for a few days I find the tones to be quite pleasing in all positions.
I usually favor a jazz tone, thick like a Gibson. This one provides thicker than normal Fender,
compared to a Strat with vintage 69s, but less than a LP. I'm playing through a GK 1001 with 4 10s. I guess the closest thing, as far as sound is concerned, would be a Tele with humbuckers. Also, I've noticed how close the E strings are to the edge of the fretboard. The rounder radius takes some getting used to. I think it sounds better than the demo with
Johnny. Hope this helps.

Hi Guys,

Apologies for not reporting back sooner, but I am pleased to announce that I received my replaced Jag last month & must say it plays and sounds like a total different guitar! I was also pleased to reveal that the booklet has been signed by no other that the great man himself!

The high 'E' still isn't fantastic & this is definitely due to the wider spread of the Mustang bridge. I do find it tricky from time to time, especially playing songs such as That Joke isn't Funny Anymore' were it goes into the bridge part & the high 'E' is played on the 7th fret, I sometimes tend to push the string off the fretboard.

Shame to hear that Cobbler is also experiencing paint issues as with my previous guitar. I think some of these guitars are pushed out of the factory too quickly without any real craftsmanship involved!

cwwjr1,

thanks for the review. I particularly find position 4 to be real Gibson-like thick (that is the jazz position I like). Several of you have trouble with E strings sliding off (I have too, but with practice am minimizing it). i would NOT buy another guitar with 7.5" radius, this is my first one. Prefer Fender 9.5 or 10.

Chogster, great to hear that you got some satisfaction from Fender, and the signed booklet, too! How about a report on your replacement JMJ experiences to date?

Does anybody ever hear a "hollow" tone from your JMJ, particularly in position 2?

Craig H

Again, the e string hanging off is an easy fix. Yank the neck towards the upper horn. That's it. It has nothing to do with string spacing, or the bridge, or the trem, or the fretboard. It's simply a poorly-seated neck.

If you're worried about it, take it to your tech. They should know what to do with a cursory glance.

HP,

This is a well known method of reseating the neck I am familiar with. I did attempt this on first JM jaguar & it did improve the high e but only to the detriment of the low e! It is a fact that the Mustang bridge increasing the string spread compared to the original Jag bridge. Reading old Fender forums, people in the past have attempted to fit Mustang bridges to Jags only to report the same issues. This, to me, is a characteristic of the guitar, which one simply has to get used to.

I just received my Johnny Marr Jaguar almost 2 weeks ago, and I totally dig it.

However...

It's almost as though the vibrato arm is the incorrect diameter for the hole on the vibrato. I saw the little flyer in the case about the arm being a tight fit, etc., but mine won't even go inside the hole.

Anyone else have this issue?

So, I just read another thread on here regarding someone else having the same issue I am with the vibrato arm. He believes that his got made with a AVRI Jaguar vibrato and not the correct one with the nylon bushing.

I zoomed in on some photos of a Johnny Marr Jaguar on Sweetwater's website, and I think I can sort of see a black bushing inside the vibrato arm hole.

However, since I am not completely sure what I'm supposed to be looking for (since mine is the first and only Johnny Marr Jaguar I have actually seen), I thought I would post some photos of my vibrato arm hole to see if any of you folks would be able to tell whether mine has the bushing or not.

Here are some shots of the vibrato arm hole on my Johnny Marr Jaguar:

Does it look like mine has this bushing, or does it look like it's a AVRI vibrato?

Hiwatt,

It looks to me like you have the nylon bush insert, check to see if it has a nylon / plastic feel to it. If the arm won't stay in place you'll have to remove the tremolo saddle & tighten the locking nut underneath.

The issue wasn't the arm not staying in place...the arm won't even go into the hole.

I don't know why I didn't think to do this last night, but I got out my set of precision screwdrivers after I got home from work today and tapped and scraped the tip of one around the inside of the vibrato arm hole.

It was definitely metal against metal.

Now I am bummed and actually more than a little pissed.

Just received my olympic white today after 3 months of waiting...
No issues, whatsoever! The neck is seated perfect, no gaps... the finish/paint is flawless... the guitar plays out of the box better than I expected, I believe ALL guitars MUST get setup but this one will do fine until I'm ready to let her go for a couple of days to my tech...
I'm usually a bass player and had no electric guitar laying around... This will do as my one and only for a long time!
All I can say is, "WOW!"

Did I get the one in a thousand that's perfect? or are we only hearing about the issues.

Wait... never mind... thought the neck is the best I've ever owned.. the paint has developed solvent pops... little blisters that pop and leave craters... it's going back.

Just got my Johnny Marr Jaguar in the mail and it's great except for the neck doesn't fit as tight in the neck pocket as it could/should. I can fit a business card between the neck and the body on the high e-string side. Is anyone else having this issue? Contemplating returning it to get a new one.
Thank you!

Hiwatt, I played hell trying to get a MIJ Jaguar tremolo lock button to work .... no luck at all. The lock buttons underside round bolt is to small to keep the tremolo plate and the top plate apart for tuning. So I got a U.S.A. made tremolo and in stalled it on my MIJ Jaguar HH Specal and it works just fine. I've got a little tweeking to do when I change out my strings.

Both the MIJ and USA tremeolo systems did not have the bushing your looking for. Also It sounds like you have a MIJ tremolo bar because the Japanese tremolo bars are a thicker around than the American tremolo bars. I have two tremolo bars for my MIJ tremolo and one for my USA tremolo systems.

I hope this will help you and anyone else with Jaguar/jazzmasters tremolo system problums.

engteckzilla

P.S. Don't try installing a tremolo system in a guitar unless you have an instrument repair background. Its major project and easy to screw up.

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum. I've been having paint chipping away from my Johnny Marr Jag (white). I HAVE NOT been mishandling this guitar infact the paint has chipped away from where the guitar sits on the stand. I have two other Fenders that have been played many, many more hours that have no wear anything close to the chips on the JAg.

Do anyone know the response from Fender? I'm planning on sending mine back which makes me really sad because I've been loving the axe.

Thank you for any advice.

Peace,
ROB

Well, it's almost been a year since receiving my replacement JM Jag and out of the blue it has unfortunately decided to develop a nice crack just to the rear of the neck pocket.

The guitar has never left my house, has spent most of the time in its case / sat in a stand, never been mishandled in anyway and still has the protective film attached to the scratch plate!

Having noticed the crack I immediately got in touch with Fender UK who took the guitar in for inspection and offered a replacement. Within a week or so of returning the guitar I have today received the following replacement:

Image

Image

Upon opening the case my first observation was the bottom 'E' string virtually running off the edge of neck - not great but easily fixable I thought! Upon closer inspection of the neck pocket I noticed that paint was already starting the chip & I hadn't even removed the guitar from its case! Although not shown, there are also excessive gaps between the scratch plate and the selector switch.

This is now my 3rd instrument; the 1st was pretty shocking from start to finish, the 2nd was great until it decided to crack and the 3rd = dead on delivery!

Can somebody please remind me why we pay huge £'s for USA built Fender guitars?!
