So, I just realized that I'm going to buy a Jaguar, but I need some help!

These guitars can be somewhat hard to come by, so reissue is my option here.
I have trouble finding out what the deal is pickupwise between these two Jaguars:

The Thin Skin '62 (a rare line? I just found these in a handful of shops)
http://www.wildwoodguitars.com/products ... yID=25&n=0

The American Vintage '62
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/ ... D=26040746

I really dig the tone on the American vintage '62, demonstrated through a marshall amp here:

But since the specifications seem a bit lacking, I need some help on this.
I won't buy something I don't know the sound of, so I have this pickup issue..

Appreciate any help here!

If you observe other differences between the two, besides price, let me know!
I can't understand why there is a $100 price difference between them, when I believe that they are somewhat equal in most areas.

Please help, this is urgent!
Andrew

Thinskin Nitro stands for "thin skin nitrocellulose lacquer finish".

Ask shimmilou for more details.

To celebrate the Jag's 50th anniversary, Fender released a special-edition Jaguar featuring a late 1960s bound "tuxedo" rosewood neck in three cool finishes: burgundy mist, candy apple red and lake placid blue.

Alright! Even more to choose from :P

Ok, so now I'm down to the thin skin and the 50th anniversary edition one.
Any reviews or recommendations? Any help is greatly appreciated, I'm up for a hefty gig-summer :)

It appears to me that the Thin skin series was a special order with a couple of nice finesses, but the Anniversary edition is a bit more of an investment in developing something from Fender's part. Of course the pickups aren't wound as the good ol' ones, but one will do with what one has.

Yep, your last post nailed what the "Thin Skin" line is - it's a limited edition (some years Fender also calls them a "special edition) done for a small number of dealers. They always feature the thinner nitro finish without the poly undercoat like the regular AVs, different colors than the regular AV, and most of them (but not all) have the modern 9.5" radius and larger frets. Strats and Teles usually have some type of CS pickups, but I believe the Jaguars and Jazzmasters have the standard AV pickups.

I've had a Thin Skin which was absolutely gorgeous but unreliable in terms of setup, tuning and buzz.

I have a 50th Anniversary which is an absolute dream. Many chastise the 50th as being "not really" a Jaguar but the things they complain about (moved trem, hot pups, etc) are precisely why I like it. YMMV.

If you favor the Thin Skin, I would definitely recommend the Mastery bridge (I have one on my 50th also). It's not cheap but neither is the guitar you'd be putting it on.

'Don't think you can go wrong either way.

Looks, quality, playability, vibe, both are super-fine in this opinion.

And never had a problem with Jazz or Jag bridges, but an not an aggressive player.

Hey folks,
I have the same trouble.
I am gonna get a new Jag but I can't decide which one. 62' Thin Skin or 50th Anniversary ?
Now, It's hard to find a 62' Thin Skin Jag and also 50th Anniversaries stocks are dropping off.
So, I have to decide quickly.
By the way, I am living in Turkey and I'll order it from USA. I just found two 62' Thin Skin on web sites.
Thanks for your responses.
E.

50th Anniversary has hotter pickups than the 62. So there will be a difference sonically. I love my 62 CS Jag and my 50th Jag. They are both great guitars.

About the '65 "The classic Jaguar shorter scale, dual-circuit layout and sleekly chromed-out design are here, along with a bound round-laminated fingerboard and larger pearl dot inlays—elegant touches the Jaguar acquired in 1965, merely three years after its introduction. "

That and the increased "street" price from $1799.99 to $2399.99.

Also, flash coat laquer, mid 60's "C" neck. Specs state "bone nut" I don't remember the exact composition of the 62 AVRI.

Black case vs. brown Tolex.

In 1966 the pearl dots have been replaced by rectangular block markers.

The 50th Anniversary Jag does have the traits of an original vintage '66.
