I'm new around here...I love my Strats and Teles, no doubt about it! But I also love my vintage 1976 Starcaster (not to be confused with the budget priced Costco guitar); it combines the best elements of a Strat and a 335.

Just wondered if there were any other Starcaster fans here...and if anyone knows why Fender is pretty much denying these marvelous guitars ever existed?

I am also curious if anyone knows how many were made? I have been given estimates raging from 200 to 2,000.

I'm glad yours rocks, and I have always wondered why fender made such good guitars(starcaster) and then made a cheap version of it and gave the great ones a bad name. I have a crappy budget one. I have always wanted to play a REAL starcaster. Since my cheap starcaster sucked I had to get a new Cyclone 2 yesterday. It is awesome. I am so happy that I can't stop posting it everywhere.

The original Starcaster was pretty sweet...and it bears no similarity at all to the budget guitar of the same name. I can't imagine why Fender chose to slap that name on the new one.

I am not familiar with the Cyclone 2. Could you let me know more about it?

I don't know much about them. I know they started making them around 2002 or 2003 and they quit making them in 2007. My cyclone looks just like the one in that pic over there <-------- I see on here and a lot of other places people looking for them. I didn't know how... I guess you could say... "rare" they are.

They aren't rare, there are tons of them out there. Hard to find one for sale, probably. That's what the custom shop is for.

That's what I thought. They are just in high demand and not in production

The original Fender Starcaster. This one is much like mine, with far fewer scratches (mine has had a very active life!) Image

An amazing guitar...I will never understand why they reassigned the name.

Hello Regnadkcin,

I remember those starcasters well, I never
had the opportunity to play one but I always
liked there look.

Cheers.

Howdy, Mr. Bill!

I love mine. Kinda the sustain of a vintage Gibson with the bite of a vintage Strat. Very cool indeed.

Hello Rednadkcin,

Seems these Starcasters are really getting
quite valuable 3 to 4 Grand for a nice one.
Well I can't think about getting one at that
price, so I'll just remain envious.

Cheers.

Are they really? I bought mine about 10 years ago for around $1,500, which was a bit high at the time. I know they are collectible, but didn't realize they were going up that much! Still, I wouldn't part with mine for twice that.

I sure would like to know for sure just how many were made, if anyone out there happens to know.

I don't like maple fingerboards--but if I had a chance to get one of these--I would.

Hello Rednadkcin,

Thought you might be interested that you
can download the Starcaster manual.
Hit the support button and you'll find it.
Not real exciting but it's there.

Cheers.

Thanks...I would love to have that!

Responding to the above post, I am not usually a maple neck fan, either. But I like it on the Starcaster; probably the combination with the hollow body.
