Comparing that guitar to the info here I'd say it looks both authentic and original......

http://www.fenderjapan.co.jp/products_jazzmaster.html

I don't know that any regular-production MIJ/CIJ guitars are finished in nitro -- likely it's a thin poly paint (that's what's on my "premium vintage" CIJ '65 Strat re-issue).

this looks like a 66' reissue from japan, probably early 90's. I've got the blonde/ gold hdwe model, and everything looks the same to me. pull the trigger, as these japanese fenders are pretty awesome!

Actually the MIJ '66 Jazzmaster re-issue is a bit fancier, with the "tuxedo" neck featuring block inlays and fretboard binding......

If the G&G HSC is included -- yes, IMO.

Hey there Arjay, I have one of the LIMITED EDITIONS thay they claim to be a 66' reissue,
rake a look at this pick and let me know. I may have conflicting info, at first I thought is
was a 62' reissue, but the neck pocket states a 66'. what do you think?

thanks,
Bob-o

The only significant difference between the '62 and '66 instruments is the neck -- by '66 all Jags, JM's, and J Basses were being built with the CBS-championed "tuxedo" design. My Fender catalogs from the 65-66 and 1967 model years show only the fancy fretboards with the block markers and binding (the 65-66 catalog even illustrates the Strat as having the binding only).

It's likely that Fuji-Gen builds a single Jazzmaster body (marked as a '66 for those re-issues) then mates it to a standard 21-fret Strat neck to create an alternate '62 edition. Scale length, fretboard radius (for true vintage-spec re-issues), and headstock shape would be the same for both a Jazzmaster and a Strat from 1962. Fender-Japan did screw the pooch on the control knobs for the '66 version -- the Strat-style knobs had been abandoned by this time, replaced by a purpose-designed type which was often used on the Electric XII as well.

cool beans dude. All I can say for sure, is that she's one of the limited runs that came in
the package deal with the Jaguar and a tweed amp back in 94' I believe. I was
fortunate enought to find this Jazzmaster for $500 with the original blonde tolex case
(SCORE!). oh, and TY, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. Hope you come home with a
sparkly new guitar!

Rock and or Roll!

What's the distance involved -- can you drive there?
