Ok, so I know that Kurt Cobain originally designed the Fender Jagstang and that its production has been halted, started, and halted again. My question is why would Fender do that with such a great instrument and a great way to remember someone so influencial?

I don't know why they would do that. It has such a great look, feel, and sound to it.

So they can reissue it yet again and make a load of money.
I dont believe it can sustain a demand so it may be one of them designs that reappears now and then. Most players that have or have had Jag-Stangs usually move onto Jaguars or Mustangs, it just is'nt a popular guitar. I had my first JS in 1998 and i think it is probably more popular now than it has ever been which i think coincides with its unavailability.

I really don't think Fender is the type of company that has to do that kind of stuff to build demand for their product. I would say that they probably could have kept the jagstang in production and people would still be on waiting lists trying to get one.

Your probably right.
Most people that are attracted to the Jag-stang are so because of the Kurt Cobain association with the guitar. But when they released the Jaguar HH and KC Jaguar they may have thought the Cobain inspired crowd would go for them models.
Ultimately, it is reported that Cobain was not entirely happy with the Jag-stang and indeed a lot of JS users do 'move on' to arguably better models. Personally i like the Jag-stang and always have, i also like the Toronado which is also no longer in production, same as the Cyclone.

Its sad to see all three go.

I really like the way the Jagstang balances during play due to its body shape. I've hear a lot of complaints about that, but I just don't see it. Sure a lot of people get it because of Kurt, I have it because I actually enjoy the guitar. Did Kurt ultimately hate it? then good. He made a guitar someone else can enjoy.
