Have you checked them for a set screw?

If they are stock plastic knobs....get a thin cloth, like used to wipe your guitar down with, and pull it under the knob, wrap it around the potentiometer post to meet the 2 ends of the cloth on the opposite side of the knob. Now grip the cloth tightly and pull straight up! "Pop" goes the knob, and you didn't mark up the knob or the scratch plate by being an ape and using pliers or prying with a screwdriver LOL. It works....use the cloth!

I've used dental floss to get under the knobs, because sometimes there's not a lot of room between the knob and the guitar body. Slide a piece of the floss under each side of the knob, wrap it good around your fingers, and pull up.

the only cloth i get under isent long enough to get it all around.. shoe laces dosent fit under and i think the floss will brake etc..

Unfold a fender polish cloth...it works perfect! If all else fails, get a pair of pliers (not needle nose) and wrap the teeth with masking tape quite heavily. Now grip once, squeeze like heck and pull them off! :)

Vintage Mustang knobs are help on with set screws. I don't know about newer ones.

Mine is a late 70's and the knobs come off quite easily--at that time Fender was using Strat style knobs on Mustangs--but some of the older ones were indeed held on by the small screw--but even if it isn't they can get stuck on...
