The new Modern Players Jags are cool looking, but can you explain why they are so cheap? I know they are Chinese made for one, but what are things to look out for in these models? Am I better off investing in a more expensive model jag? Also, if I wanted to cusom build my own, what would it take? I have colors, p/u's, hardware etc. in mind. Is there any way of getting a special one built? Let's just pretend $$$$ is no object.

Well, quite a bit actually. I'm not looking for cocky answers, I want to know what the differences are in wood choices, hardware, sound, longevity...anything useful. Not redundant pompous non-answers.

Once again, is it worth even buying one of these, since I can't seem to find one in any store around here? Is it a QUALITY intrument or should I go for a '62 reissue or a Special HH? The looks of the Modern Players are nice, but would I regret the craftmanship? :?:  :(

As someone who owns one I can tell you that they are not made in china. They are made in mexico. As far as quality goes, it is a fantastic instrument. The classic player HH Jaguar, is one of the most versatile instruments I have had the pleasure of playing. This guitar can be used for pretty much any style of music. Metal, Jazz, Rock, Country, Blues, it does them all. The blendable coil taps on each pickup, paired with the bass cut switch make for alot of tonal options and the pickups are very clear and warm sounding, I couldn't mush them up no matter how hard I tried. You can make it sound like anything from a Strat to a Les Paul, and anything in between. The body is made of alder, the neck is maple with a gloss lacquer finish on the neck and a beautiful tint to the neck. Some people prefer necks with no lacquer, but I found it very comfortable, and the neck shape was very comfortable as well. this is all just my opinion, but I have been playing for 17 years, and have ownedmany guitars, and this one has become one of favorites.
Hope this helps.

The MP Jag with P90s does sound interesting.

Actually, the new Modern Players Series guitars ARE made in China. That's why they are only $399 and say Fender on the headstock, rather than Squier. I pre-ordered one of the trans-charcoal Teles and all I can say is it's the best $400 I ever spent on a new guitar.

The fit and finish and workmanship are superb. The Teles have pine bodies, the Jags have mahogany bodies with three color options. The Teles are H-S-S configured, while the Jags are fitted with two MP-90 pickups. I consider the Tele to be a great addition to my guitar collection and it required very little set-up when I got it.

I don't think you would regret buying either of these guitars.

I refuse to acknowledge any of the hags without the jag tone circuit as a Jaguar.

Save your money for a '62 Reissue USA. It's the real thing. And yes, the $$$ difference is worth it.

I played the Modern Player Jaguar just yesterday at Guitar Center and it sounded AMAZING. I personally think it looks pretty lame, but the sound is worth 3x the price. I am very seriously considering it as my next guitar.

I haven't played the MP Jag but I have a MP Marauder and it is great. Very high quality. I can't tell any difference in quality from American Fenders that I've played. It feels higher in quality than a $2000 Les Paul that I played. I can't get over how nice it is. I also played a MP Thinline Tele with P90s. I didn't want to like the MP series when I first read about it but I became a believer very quickly once I played some of them. I'll probably try out the Jag one of these days when I'm in the guitar shop. I don't consider the MP Jag a "real" Jaguar but it seems like a neat guitar if you don't compare it to the original design Jaguar.
