I was just thinking about how much I want a Jaguar, then I started wondering if it would make a good blues guitar since that mostly what I play. Well, that led to me trying to think of a good blues player who used a jaguar at any time in their career...but I couldn't think of any. Does this mean that Jaguars aren't good for blues music? Can anyone think of somebody who has used one?

As far as I'm concerned, you can play whatever type of music on any guitar. I don't want to be pigeon holed into a particular style because I play a certain guitar. Just make music and make it your own!

Honestly, that's what I think, I was just wondering why no blues players use jaguars. It seems like everyone has a "famous" stratocaster which they are known for. But the only Jaguar player that I can think of in ANY genre of music is Elvis Costello. Maybe Kurt Cobain?

Yeah me too. But I am sure that blues would sound great on a Jag.

I was under the impression that jags didn't have enough sustain for blues and that their 7 1/2 fret board radius really choked out bigger bends...
At least thats what i read somewhere else :)

Well... Maybe there is´nt a lot of famous blues players using a jaguar, but that is not a reason for you to not use one. You might start a new trend???

I play Death Metal on aBlacktop Jag that I modified. I threw in Seymour Duncan Blackouts, (the Mick Thomson ones, cuz they are setup for extremely low tunings and we tune down three whole steps), and I also removed the tone pot to make room for the battery pack for the active pickups, plus it helps with unfettered highs in the low tuning. Play what ever you want on what ever you want to playImage

Elvis Costello uses a Jazzmaster, not a Jaguar.

If sustain is your concern, you can always add a compressor/sustainer, or use a Jaguar with a different bridge or tailpiece if you really want or need more sustain.

The Jaguar's bridge has its own set of issues, some of which may be curable. But the 7.25" radius is not a cause for concern regarding sustain. Consider that many of Jimmy Page's compositions on the first two Led Zeppelin albums were played on an old Telecaster.

+1...And Clapton's Brownie Strat used in Derek & the Dominos was a '56 with 7.25 radius and he bent the hell out of some of those notes on that album. And IIRC he also used a Jazzmaster in the Yardbirds also a 7.25 radius.

+1 on both of the above, and raise with Roy Buchanan.
His style & setup give tips on how to handle both sustain (dime the amp, control the volume with the guitar) and choking when bending (raise the action, compensate with lighter strings) issues.
