American Vintage Series are the newer reissues. You gotta check the date stamp on the neck. You have to take the neck off the body to see the stamp. I saw them do that to an old jazzmaster on the antique roadshow one time. Look here where it has information about serial numbers that begin with V:

Google " The guitar dater project "!! I got the info on my 1968 Tele. Date and factory!! Pretty cool!!

I tried to get info on my Talon, but had no luck. It has an "F" serial number. Anyone have an idea?
Cheers!

This guitar is from the U.S. Vintage Series
made at the Corona Plant (Fender), USA
in the Year(s): Cannot be determined from serial number,
however you can consult this chart showing the
corelation between serial numbers and dates found on the neck
Fender MIA RI Serial Number vs. Neck Date

Only use it as information, as it may not always correct. I Goggled my guitar serial # at "The guitar dater project" >http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx< It has 'Your guitar was made at the Fullerton Plant (Fender - Pre CBS Era), USA in the Year(s): 1960 - 1961'.
Mine is a 1959 Jazzmaster with pot dates of the 16th week of 1959. It has an Anodized pick guard with a no date written on the neck. The anodized pick guard was used from 1958 to mid 1959. The no date neck is also correct for this time frame. I bought it new from an authorized Fender dealer.. I figure it to be assembled somewhere around May to July1959.
