I still have my first Fender guitar (Duo-SonicII) that I bought new in 1973. I Got it out the other day to clean it up and restring it. I can't get hardly any relief in the neck and I'm afraid the neck may be shot. I found a website dedicated to the MusicMaster and Duo- Sonic guitars with lots of production run information. According to the records, the Duo-Sonic II was discontinued in 1968. The serial number on mine is178XXX which puts it in the 1966 range. Is it possible that they made so many of these being that they were "student" guitars that music stores were still selling NOS Duo-Sonics in 1973? I took the pickguard off years ago doing a cleanup on the pickup switches and I don't recall what the ser. mumber on the heel of the neck was. Here are some photos.ImageImageImage

The lam-rosewood fretboard with wide 12th-fret dot spacing and the transitional CBS decal tell me the instrument is indeed a '66 model. In exceptional shape, I might add. Take it to a good luthier and let him straighten out the issues.
