it sound amazing ,at first i did not want to buy it as i have heard alot about how bad was the 70s guitars and heavy, well this one is light and i was shocked ,so i had to buy it,its hard tofind one in this condition.i will be posting pictures of it soon.
now my question is;did i makea mistake in buying this guitar?do they hold there value in time to come?and also does any knows how many fender made of them?and how long?
as ive tried to get some info but nothing out there about these beautifull guitars.

Only you can decide if your purchase was a "mistake". The guitar sounds like it's in great original shape so if the price was right and you are happy with the sound and the playability, then there's really no need for introspection or second-guessing your decision.

The fact is, *some* of the '70s Strats were bad. And many were quite heavy as well (my '79 25th Anniversary model weighed over 15 lbs). But the ash lumber used during this era was very inconsistent -- which is why the average weights of these instruments fluctuated so dramatically. Ergo, just as there were "heavy" examples, so were there relative lightweights.

The "international color" palette lasted only a short time -- three years, IIRC. Some unpopular colors were quickly discontinued while others held on until the entire line of paints was ultimately dropped, save for one. That color was Arctic White, which remains as an available finish on selected models. Capri Orange seems to be a relatively rare option -- I've only seen one or two in my time.

Post pics of your guitar when you get a chance -- we all enjoy seeing tasty guitar porn.

And welcome to the forum

Arjay

hello there, I too have a capri orange fender strat. thought it was a 1979 because of the headstock and serial numbers but after some internet searching found out that it is 1981 international series, made in 1981 with old parts from the 1970's. Mine weighs a ton too.

Actually they weren't "made with old parts from the 1970s" - Fender just used their "S9XXXXX" serial number decals on the Strats and Teles until they were used up - and it took them a couple of years to get that done (same with other parts like pots, etc. - Fender bought large batches of them and just used them up). Strats pretty much went from "S9" decals to "E2" decals. Meanwhile, other Fender models used "E0" and "E1" serial numbers - like my Lead II with an "E0" number that was purchased in November 1979.
