Hello,

Thanks to everyone in the past who has taken the time to answer my questions. I'm currently working on Scales--that was the last thread I created.

Now, I'm looking to move on from my Squire Bullet. The Bullet has been perfect so far for my needs; an instrument to practice with, in a tone I like. I purchased the Bullet for $100.00 and I have definitely gotten my money's worth. I do not want to move up to a Standard American Strat, yet. I'm looking at three options:

Squier Deluxe Hot Rails Strat Electric Guitar
Squier Deluxe Strat Electric Guitar

or

Fender Deluxe Player's Stratocaster Electric Guitar

The Fender Player is more expensive than the Hot Rails and the Strat. In terms of tone and features, the Fender Player makes much more sense
because of the button which allows for seven different pick up combinations. The Fender Hot Rails and Strat are far less expensive, but other than an additional fret, style features, some material differences, I'm not certain how either two differ from the Bullet I already own.

I'm planning to purchase my next guitar in November--I already have a perfect amp, which I purchased based on some good recommendations here and having played all the options.

In the same way, I plan on playing all three at the store before I purchase. However before I do that, I would like to know how I should look at buying a more expensive Squire. I'm strongly leaning towards the Deluxe Player because I highly value versatility, the only drawback is the style of the guitar.

Questions:

1. Deluxe Hot Rails and Strat: do either have significant sound and tonal changes than the Bullet I currently own?
2. Deluxe Hot Rails and Strat: are either known to be far more reliable and durable than the Bullet I currently own?
3. I know the Deluxe Player is a MIM--no problem with that--what are the Hot Rails and Strat? Does it matter?
4. Are there questions I am not asking and should be asking?

Thanks for any and all replies.

I believe you should go to any music store and try them first,I'd personally jump to the MiM Fender Series, why not trying the mim Standard strats less expensive than the Deluxe Player Strat,it is a great instrument to start with.
The Deluxe Player has a good built quality but stays in the MiM category,it beats the Mexican Std with its electronic, but as your game will develop and you will find your favorite genres of music, you will maybe swap your Pick-ups for some that fit your music.

If you like the feel of the guitar, its price and its tone, this guitar is the way to go!

I second that recommendation.
It's hard to top the Mexican Strat for value for the dollar.

Don't pass on used Squiers or Mexican Standards. 2 or 3 Squiers a day come on sale in my local market...usually barely played and half the price of a new one. you should also be able to get a good quality used Mexican Standard for $300.

Also, if you haven't played for more than a couple years, I wouldn't get caught up in the pickups. A Mexican standard is a versatile instrument and top notch for both learning on and for a veteran player to gig with.
