I just bought a Squier Cyclone for 260 (Really 220 with the shipping and handling charge.) And I was wondering It has a very twangy sound and feels a bit hollow within the electronics. My first question is does the Fender Cyclone have the same sound dynamics not pluged in or is it heavier. Second question: Do the Fender Cyclones have better electronics and does anybody recommend me switching out the squier for the Real Tex and Atomic humbucker?

Let me rephrase. Has anyone played a Fender Cyclone and a Squier Cyclone? If so which one do you think sounds better? And does anybody recommend switching out th electronics on the Squier with the Original Fender Cyclone or should I just get a real cyclone?

I own a Fender Cyclone made in Mexico. Its awesome. Its my go to guitar and probably the most versatile guitar I own. I even prefer it to my PRS. I can get a variety of different sounds out of it. I don't think the Squier version had the same pickups the Mexican one made. What pickup configuration did yours come in? Mine is S/H, but I know they made it in H/H as well. Also what kind of strings are you using and what kind of amp are you running though?

AFAIK the MIM Fender Cyclone has a poplar body while the Squier version's is basswood. That might account for part of the sonic differences.

Wow learn something new everyday. I had no idea the Squier had basswood under the paint. Ibanez guitars, especially the RG range tend to all have Basswood bodies (Not talking the Premium or Prestige line) and even in the H/H configuration they have hollow tone to them. I would maybe change the pickups to what the Mexican Cyclone has in it and go from there. They should be easy to come by.

That's probably the easiest and most significant way to improve the guitar's tone.

I'm most convince that I should simply change it out for a real mexican made Cyclone. It's too bad they canceled that model line, Cyclones are such great guitars. I also know of one artist out in japan that uses a modified Cyclone. If Fender were to mine that publicity they maybe able to release that guitar again.

speaking of mining publicity, i try to always make sure my Cyclone II's visible on stage (if i'm not actually PLAYING it) when my band plays shows. maybe we'll get somewhere someday and it'll get reissued... until then, i handle the thing with kid gloves and bubble wrap! would be devastated if it got broken more than it already is (has a little battle damage on the lower corner behind the jack from the strap breaking once... but personality's not always a bad thing :P )
