I finally got to try a Pawnshop Mustang and it's like a Swiss Army Knife with all the tonal options. There are two H-B pups, a 3-position toggle switch, and each pup has a slide that lets you coil tap the neck coil, the bridge coil, or both. Lots of different sounds!

But what I don't get is how Fender figures and advertises 18 tonal settings. I can't get past 15 settings:
1) With the toggle in the neck position you have 3 options from the neck pup.
2) With the toggle in the bridge position you have, again, 3 options from the bridge pup.
3) With the toggle in the Both position you have 9 options:
Neck in neck: Bridge in neck, bridge in both, bridge in bridge.
Neck in both: Bridge in neck, bridge in both, bridge in bridge
Neck in bridge: Bridge in neck, bridge in both, bridge in bridge.
That's 9 options.
3 + 3 + 9 = 15 options, not 18.

But if you simply say you have 3 * 3 * 3 options (which is wrong) you have 18 options.
The mistake? When the toggle is in either the bridge or neck position, the slide switches for the other pup are out of the system.

Did I miss something?

You're probably right.

But if turn everything off and play it "unplugged" you have a 16th option.

I thought of that but then, that's not REALLY a tonal option, is it? :?:

Ah, so you only think it's funny if it's someone ELSE's instrument...

If you can't stand the heat, don't play in the kitchen...and don't issue threats.

If you meant it as a joke, it didn't come across that way, rather as turning the thread a different way. But if it's just a bad joke, I'm OK with that.
