I would like to know if anyone has any input on the value of a 1956 Fender duo-sonic. I have a chance to pick one up but have no clue of the value.
Thanks for any help

Basically, the value will be determined by how much the seller can con from the shmuck who's interested in buying it.

Typically, a Duo-Sonic will command anywhere from $1200 to $2800 contingent upon the condition and originality of the instrument, the year, and if the original HSC case is included.

You might check completed sales on Ebay for similar instruments to gauge the market -- tender your offer accordingly.

What Arjay said with the high price being for a mint condition one with original case(also mint)and all the hangtags and case candy.

+1 to everything discussed thus far.

I would also place emphasis to be sure of whether the components of the guitar are all-original, as well as whether the guitar has received a paint sanding&refinish. Anything of the sort drastically diminishes the value of the instrument.

Would I be right to assume that the Duo-Sonic has a Desert Sand finish w/ one-piece maple neck?

For a '56 model, yes. Desert Sand, gold anodized pickguard, single-piece maple furniture. Original accessories would include the HSC, a strap, a cord, and the ashtray bridge cover.
